And much more floor space.\nAutoStore - moving things forward.\nThe Role\nAutoStore is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer who has successfully carried new products to market. We are looking for an engineer with experience taking complex electromechanical products from concept to launch. The successful engineer will have owned mechanical systems through the challenges encountered during development and production, including reliability failures, wear and fatigue issues, manufacturing constraints, supplier quality challenges, tolerance stack-up issues, and the difficult design trade-offs required to deliver robust, scalable products without compromising long-term performance.\nThis individual will serve as a technical leader, owning the architecture and development of key mechanical subsystems within AutoStore's robotic and automation platforms. They will be expected to balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost while delivering innovative solutions that can be successfully deployed at scale.\nKey Tasks and Responsibilities:\nMechanical System Ownership - Concept Through Production\nLead the design and development of mechanical and electromechanical systems from concept through architecture, CAD design, prototyping, validation, and production release. \nOwn subsystem architecture, component strategy, and technical trade-offs balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost. \nDesign and develop mechanical solutions including structural components, mechanisms, drive systems, robotic assemblies, and other electromechanical systems. \nLead and execute root-cause investigations of design, manufacturing, reliability, and field-performance issues. \nPerform and guide engineering analysis, including FEA, fatigue analysis, tolerance stack-ups, dynamic analysis, vibration assessments, and design verification activities. \nDrive DFM, DFA, DFR, and DFx activities with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure scalable and cost-effective production. \nOwn prototype builds, engineering validation testing, pilot builds, and production launch activities. \nPartner closely with electrical, firmware, software, controls, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams to ensure successful product integration. \nDevelop robust mechanical systems capable of operating reliably within demanding robotic and automated warehouse environments. \nDefine and execute functional, environmental, vibration, fatigue, wear, and life-cycle testing to validate product performance and reliability. \nSupport supplier development, component qualification, manufacturing readiness, and continuous product improvement initiatives. \nKey Qualifications:\n9+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and product development of complex mechanical or electromechanical systems. \nExperience leading products from concept through validation, production launch, and sustaining engineering. \nStrong proficiency with 3D CAD, FEA, FMEA, PLM systems, and engineering documentation best practices. \nExperience in designing mechanisms and electromechanical systems incorporating motors, gear trains, bearings, belt drives, actuators, sensors, and power transmission components. \nStrong understanding of mechanical system dynamics, kinematics, fatigue, wear mechanisms, vibration, and reliability engineering. \nExperience performing GD&T, tolerance analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and design verification activities. \nExperience performing structural, modal, and dynamic analysis of mechanical systems and moving machinery. \nExperience selecting materials and manufacturing processes for high-volume products, including sheet metal, aluminum extrusions, castings, machined components, and injection-molded plastics. \nStrong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Reliability (DFR), and Design for Cost (DFC). \nExperience working with global suppliers and contract manufacturing partners to support high-volume production. \nExperience with requirements development, interface management, risk assessment, and system-level trade studies. \nDemonstrated technical leadership, including subsystem ownership, technical decision-making, design reviews, and mentoring of engineers. \nStrong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills with a hands-on engineering mindset. \nMaster's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field (relevant experience may substitute for formal education). \nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience developing robotics, automation equipment, autonomous systems, material handling equipment, or industrial machinery. \nExperience with warehouse automation, ASRS systems, or automated fulfillment technologies. \nExperience with reliability growth testing, accelerated life testing, and field-performance analysis. \nExperience working within cross-functional product development teams spanning mechanical, electrical, controls, and software disciplines. \nExperience with automated warehouse products is preferred. \nWe Offer:\nAutoStore believes in taking care of employees and is dedicated to providing a supportive and rewarding work environment.
