And much more floor space.\nAutoStore - moving things forward.\nThe Role:\nAutoStore is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and ship the software that connects and runs our automated storage and fulfillment systems. You will work across the stack, from networked services and messaging to the pipelines that build, test, and secure our code.\nWe are looking for an engineer with 5-7 years of professional software development experience who has owned features from design through to production. You write solid code in one or more of Rust, C++, Java, Python, or TypeScript, understand how systems communicate across networks and firewalls, and bring hands-on DevOps experience so that your software is built, tested, and scanned automatically. Our team works in GitHub.\nAs a senior member of the team, you will help set technical direction, review designs and code, and mentor other engineers. This role includes domestic and international travel.\nKey Tasks and Responsibilities:\nSoftware Design and Development\nDesign, develop, and maintain software in one or more of Rust, C++, Java, Python, or TypeScript.\nBuild services and integrations that communicate using messaging and API technologies such as MQTT, RabbitMQ, REST, and WebSockets.\nMake sound architecture and design decisions that balance performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.\nWrite unit and integration tests, and debug complex issues across the application, operating system, and network layers.\nNetworking and Connectivity\nDesign and support network communication between our software, devices, cloud services, and customer systems.\nConfigure firewall rules and network settings so that systems can communicate securely across firewalls and network boundaries.\nTroubleshoot connectivity issues such as blocked ports, latency, dropped connections, and certificate or TLS problems.\nContainers and Platform\nPackage, run, and troubleshoot applications in Docker containers.\nApply a solid understanding of operating system concepts to build efficient, reliable software.\nDeploy and operate services in cloud environments such as Azure or AWS where needed.\nCI/CD and DevOps\nSet up and maintain build pipelines in GitHub and GitHub Actions.\nAutomate test runs as soon as a build is ready, and publish the results where the team can see them.\nIntegrate automated cybersecurity scans and static code analysis into the pipeline.\nDebug, triage, and resolve pipeline failures.\nTechnical Leadership and Collaboration\nReview designs and code, and help raise the quality bar of the whole team.\nMentor mid-level and junior engineers.\nWork within cross-functional teams, collaborating with hardware, firmware, QA, and product colleagues.\nDocument designs, interfaces, and processes so others can use and support them.\nTravel domestically and internationally as needed, for example to customer sites, partners, and other AutoStore locations.\nKey Qualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.\n5-7 years of professional software development experience.\nStrong programming skills in one or more of the following: Rust, C++, Java, Python, or TypeScript.\nExperience with one or more of the following messaging and communication technologies: MQTT, RabbitMQ, REST APIs, or WebSockets.\nHands-on experience developing and running applications in Docker.\nA good understanding of operating system concepts, such as processes, threads, memory management, file systems, and scheduling.\nExperience with computer networking, including TCP/IP, configuring firewalls, and enabling secure communication between systems across firewalls and network boundaries (e.g., port and protocol configuration, NAT, VPNs, and proxies).\nDevOps experience setting up build pipelines, including automated build testing, cybersecurity scanning, and static code analysis.\nStrong Git skills and experience working in GitHub.\nWillingness to travel domestically and internationally.\nNice to Have\nExperience with Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS).\nExperience with GitHub Actions specifically.\nExperience with security and code-quality tools such as SonarQube, CodeQL, Snyk, or Trivy.\nExperience with Kubernetes and Helm.\nInfrastructure as Code experience with Terraform or Ansible.\nExperience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).\nExperience with MLOps tools such as MLflow, Kubeflow, DVC, or Weights & Biases, and an understanding of the ML lifecycle.\nExposure to embedded systems, robotics, or industrial automation.\nWe Offer:\nAutoStore believes in taking care of employees and is dedicated to providing a supportive and rewarding work environment.
