We are committed to helping our people develop through ongoing training and career progression opportunities.\nSalary & Benefits\n£16.83 - £18.69 per hour\n£0.92 per hour shift premium for unsocial hours worked between 17:00 and 08:00\n31 days annual leave, increasing with service\nCompany pension with up to 3% matched contributions\nLife assurance\nHealth and wellbeing support\nEmployee benefits and lifestyle discounts\nFully funded training and development opportunities\nFree on-site parking\nTerms and conditions apply.\nWorking Hours\nThis role operates on a rotating shift pattern:\nWeek 1\nMonday to Friday: 05:30 - 13:30\nWeek 2\nMonday to Friday: 09:30 - 17:30\nWeekend working forms part of the role and is scheduled according to business requirements:\nSaturday: 8 or 12-hour shift\nSunday: Typically 05:30 - 17:30 (12-hour shift)\nOn-Call Rota\nFollowing completion of training, you will participate in a 1 in 7 on-call rota supporting two hatchery sites.\nAdditional payments include:\n£16.51 standby payment per night whilst on call\nMinimum 4 hours paid for any call-out attendance\nOvertime paid at 1.5x hourly rate\nDouble time paid on Sundays\nThe Role\nAs a Single Skilled or Multi Skilled Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of our hatchery facility.\nYou will be responsible for maximising equipment performance, reducing downtime and supporting continuous improvement through preventative and reactive maintenance activities.\nThis is a fast-paced manufacturing environment where maintaining high standards of safety, hygiene and engineering excellence is essential.\nKey Responsibilities\nCarry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs on plant, equipment and incubators\nDiagnose faults, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions\nMinimise downtime through a fast and effective response to equipment failures\nCommunicate breakdowns and maintenance issues to management and operational teams\nAccurately record maintenance activities and spare parts usage through the maintenance system\nMaintain engineering and hygiene standards across the site\nEnsure all maintenance activities comply with company policies and legislative requirements\nSupport audits and maintain engineering compliance standards\nComplete process weigher and liquid meter calibrations in accordance with regulatory requirements\nWork safely within hazardous environments, including hot work activities and working at height\nSupport mechanical projects, machinery installations and refurbishment work\nSupport electrical projects and installations across the site\nAssist with the operation of effluent plant systems to ensure environmental compliance\nMaintain and support fire protection and suppression systems\nContribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the hatchery operation\nWhat We're Looking For\nTime-served apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline\nSingle-skilled or multi-skilled engineering experience\nStrong fault-finding and problem-solving skills\nA proactive approach to health and safety\nExcellent attention to detail\nAbility to work effectively under pressure\nFlexible, reliable and able to work as part of a small team\nDesirable Skills & Experience\nFood manufacturing experience\nIEE 17th or 18th Edition qualification\nPneumatics experience\nMulti-skilled engineering experience\nAbout Avara Foods\nAvara Foods is one of the UK's leading food businesses, supplying chicken and turkey products to major supermarkets and restaurants nationwide.
