The position will be filled by a highly motivated individual with 2-6 years of experience in a design and production environment. This position will be responsible for designing the packaging and mechanisms of optics for advanced vision systems. This position reports to the VP of Opto-Mechanical Engineering.\nAnnual salary in the range of $150,000-170,000 based on experience, stock options, full medical, dental, vision benefits, 401k matching, unlimited PTO, office snacks, and team lunches. The role is an in-office role, at our dog-friendly office located in downtown San Mateo, CA, within walking distance of Caltrain.\n Responsibilities:\nDesign opto-mechanical components and mechanisms to enclose, retain, and maintain alignment of optical elements within system tolerance specifications.\nSelect materials and manufacturing process based on optical alignment tolerance, manufacturing tolerances, temperature variation, and assembly requirements.\nWork with optical engineers to ensure components meet performance requirements.\nSupport operations as a technical resource on optics issues. \nSupport the optics development team during all engineering builds and production ramp-ups.\nInspect parts against engineering drawings and/or electrical schematics.\nAssemble optics and mechanical prototypes from drawings.\nComponent and product prototype testing and documentation.\nSupport manufacturing team bring up of automated assembly stations.\nDesign, build, and debug opto-mechanical alignment and assembly stations.\nProduce design documentation packages for vendors including optical and mechanical drawings with specification, tolerance, and special process steps.\nTravel overseas (up to 20%).\nQualifications:\nInterest in tackling challenging problems, identifying, and discussing solutions supported by data \nWillingness to try new solutions and share challenges and roadblocks \nA “how can I help” mindset \nCuriosity, humility \nBachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in mechanical engineering, optical engineering, or in a related field of study\n2-6 years of experience or equivalent in both design and manufacturing of optical systems for consumer electronics products\nProficiency with using 3D modeling and 2D drafting with SolidWorks or similar CAD software\nFamiliarity with optical design software is a plus\nAvegant is a well-funded, venture-backed technology company developing next-generation display technology to enable previously impossible augmented reality experiences.
