With 6,000+ experts worldwide, we combine engineering expertise with AI-native thinking to turn ambitious ideas into real-world impact across industries, technologies, and markets. \nAt the core of the role\nIn Sofia, Bulgaria we are actively seeking a Senior Node.js Engineer to strengthen our team dedicated to a project in Information Technology auditing, consulting, and software development industry domain.\nThe work is hybrid, and the suitable candidate can work from the client’s office in Sofia approximately 2 days per week.\nCore skills you’ll bring\n3+ years of professional backend development experience, including strong hands-on experience with Node.js.\n\nStrong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.\n\nExperience with Node.js frameworks such as Express.js, NestJS, or Fastify.\n\nSolid understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven architecture.\n\nExperience designing and developing RESTful APIs.\n\nGood knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.\n\nFamiliarity with ORM/ODM tools such as Prisma, TypeORM, Sequelize, or Mongoose.\n\nUnderstanding of software design principles, design patterns, and clean architecture.\n\nExperience with Git and collaborative development workflows.\n\nFamiliarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments.\n\nExperience with unit and integration testing.\n\nUnderstanding of application security, performance optimization, and debugging.\n\nStrong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to development.\n\nGood English communication skills and the ability to collaborate with international teams.\n\nNice-to-have\nExperience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.\n\nExperience with microservices and distributed systems.\n\nKnowledge of message brokers such as RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, or AWS SQS.\n\nExperience with GraphQL and/or WebSockets.\n\nFamiliarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration.\n\nExperience with serverless architectures.\n\nKnowledge of monitoring and observability tools.\n\nExperience working in Agile/Scrum environments.\n\nThe impact you'll create\nDesign, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js.\n\nBuild and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices.\n\nWrite clean, efficient, reusable, and well-documented code.\n\nCollaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and product stakeholders.\n\nDesign and optimize database schemas, queries, and data access patterns.\n\nIdentify and resolve performance bottlenecks and technical issues.\n\nImplement secure authentication, authorization, and data handling practices.\n\nDevelop and maintain automated unit and integration tests.\n\nParticipate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.\n\nContribute to technical discussions, architecture decisions, and solution design.\n\nSupport CI/CD processes, deployments, and production troubleshooting.\n\nEnsure application reliability, scalability, and maintainability.\n\nShare knowledge and support the professional growth of other team members\n\nPeople are at the core of Avenga.
