Working closely with software engineers, data scientists, and machine learning specialists, you will turn complex business challenges into scalable optimization solutions suitable for production environments.\nThis position combines applied mathematics, optimization, simulation, and software engineering in a research-driven environment where ideas quickly become production systems.\n\nThis is you\nMSc or PhD in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or another STEM discipline.\n\nStrong knowledge of optimization techniques such as linear programming, mixed-integer programming, constraint programming, nonlinear optimization, or heuristic/metaheuristic algorithms.\n\nExperience translating business problems into mathematical optimization models.\n\nStrong Python programming skills.\n\nExperience building production-quality software rather than research prototypes only.\n\nExperience working with large datasets and developing efficient optimization workflows.\n\nStrong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.\n\nAbility to work independently in an R&D environment with evolving requirements.\n\nGood communication skills and fluent English.\n\nNice-to-have skills:\nExperience with machine learning or AI-assisted optimization.\n\nExperience with simulation, stochastic optimization, agent-based modeling, or Markov models.\n\nKnowledge of high-performance computing (HPC).\n\nExperience with cloud platforms and distributed computing.\n\nExperience with industrial optimization problems such as logistics, manufacturing, energy, robotics, or supply chain.\n\nThis is your role\nDesign and implement mathematical optimization models for complex industrial problems.\n\nDevelop algorithms for planning, scheduling, routing, allocation, and decision support.\n\nCollaborate with machine learning engineers to combine optimization techniques with AI solutions.\n\nBuild scalable optimization pipelines using Python and modern software engineering practices.\n\nValidate optimization models through simulation and experimentation.\n\nAnalyze algorithm performance and continuously improve solution quality and computational efficiency.\n\nWork closely with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and translate them into mathematical models.\n\nDocument approaches, assumptions, and experimental results to support knowledge sharing and future development.\n\nWhat awaits you at Avenga?\nAt Avenga, everyone matters.
