As the adoption of AI accelerates in financial services, we’re scaling our team to meet growing demand.\nThe Role\nWe're seeking a hands-on Senior AI Software Engineer with strong full-stack experience to build and ship AI-powered products into production, leveraging FinLLM (the UK's first LLM for Financial Services) and other LLMs. You won’t build or train models-instead, you'll engineer the systems, services, interfaces, and integrations that bring those models to life for advisers, analysts, and banking teams. You'll own features end-to-end, covering selection, implementation, deployment, observability, and iteration across backend, frontend, and cloud infrastructure.\nKey Responsibilities\nBuild production-ready, AI-powered products integrating LLM capabilities, RAG, and agentic workflows into real-world processes.\n\nSelect models, orchestrate prompts, design systems, and implement AI tooling (e.g., LangGraph, Langfuse).\n\nDesign evaluation, monitoring, and observability to ensure reliability and readiness for production.\n\nDevelop scalable, event-driven microservices and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.\n\nBuild modern, responsive React frontends to make AI useful in customer workflows.\n\nArchitect cloud-native systems on AWS (Lambda, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB, RDS).\n\nImplement microservices, distributed-system principles, and strong operational controls for integration into financial products.\n\nUphold engineering best practices: clean code, automated testing, CI/CD, and operational excellence.\n\nDiagnose and improve production behaviours relating to reliability, latency, cost, and AI quality.\n\nMentor engineers, contribute to team growth, and collaborate closely with product and engineering to deliver customer-ready features.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\nEssential Experience\nExtensive software engineering background, building, deploying, and running production LLM/AI applications.\n\nStrong hands-on experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and production React.\n\nExperience with prompt engineering, agentic workflows, RAG, and LLM integration.\n\nKnowledge of AI evaluation frameworks, monitoring, and observability.\n\nDeep understanding of AWS, cloud-native engineering, APIs, and integration patterns.\n\nExperience with microservices, messaging patterns, event-driven, and distributed architectures.\n\nCommitment to quality, clean code, testing, and operational excellence.\n\nNice to Have\nExperience with NestJS or similar backend frameworks.\n\nFamiliarity with LangGraph, Langfuse, or other AI orchestration and observability tools.\n\nKnowledge of AI implementation in regulated/high-trust environments, ideally in financial services.\n\nSystematic evaluation design for LLM outputs and agentic workflows.\n\nExperience delivering agentic systems in production.\n\nSkills & Mindset\nEffective working in ambiguity and complex problem-solving.\n\nDesigning robust solutions and making pragmatic technical choices.\n\nClear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.\n\nAwareness of production AI challenges: reliability, latency, and cost.\n\nTechnical mentorship, influencing decisions, and raising team standards.\n\nQualifications\nRelevant degree or equivalent practical experience (production engineering capability is more important than a specific academic background).\n\nBenefits\nRemote-first working across the UK\n\nWork abroad policy\n\nCo-working spaces available\n\n34 days holiday (including flexible bank holidays) plus your birthday off\n\nCompany-wide off-sites\n\nOptional Personal Development Plan\n\nFlexible benefits platform\n\nProtection essentials: Life Insurance, Income Protection, Critical Illness cover, and Pension (up to 5% matched employer contribution, with optional increases)\n\nPrivate health and dental care\n\nPotential share options\n\nEnhanced family leave\n\nWhy Join Aveni?\nAt Aveni, we believe diversity drives innovation.
