This role requires both analytical skills and customer interaction, as you will identify the root causes of delinquency and coordinate across internal teams to resolve them. You are responsible for ensuring accounts are actively worked, progressing toward resolution, and aligned with collections strategies. Your work directly impacts cash flow, customer retention, and overall financial performance.\nThe Collections Specialist owns a defined portfolio of accounts and is responsible for reducing delinquency through targeted outreach, investigative analysis, and cross-functional coordination. This role requires independent judgment, prioritization, and the ability to balance competing demands across multiple accounts.\nFunctional:\nManage and prioritize a portfolio of delinquent accounts, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of outstanding balances while maintaining positive customer and client relationships.\nPerform outbound collections activities on accounts with balances aged 30, 60, 90, and 120+ days past due through phone, email, and written correspondence.\nResearch and resolve short payments, underpayments, unapplied cash, and other payment discrepancies by analyzing account activity and coordinating corrective actions.\nIdentify and investigate root causes of delinquency, including billing inaccuracies, eligibility issues, enrollment discrepancies, payment application errors, and customer disputes.\nCollaborate closely with Billing, Cash Application, Account Management, and other internal stakeholders to resolve account issues and improve collection outcomes.\nManage and track payment disputes from initial identification through resolution, ensuring proper documentation, timely follow-up, and communication with all impacted parties.\nEscalate complex collection issues, high-risk accounts, and unresolved disputes to management as appropriate.\nCore:\nWorking knowledge of accounts receivable collection practices, and insurance administration processes.\nStrong attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing account activity, researching issues, and documenting collection efforts.\nEffective organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage a high-volume portfolio and meet established deadlines.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to professionally interact with customers, clients, brokers, and internal business partners.\nAbility to analyze account information, identify payment issues, and determine appropriate next steps for resolution.\nCustomer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering responsive, professional, and accurate service.\nAbility to prioritize competing responsibilities and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment.\nStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment when handling routine collection matters.\nAbility to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.\nBasic understanding of AR aging, collection techniques, dispute resolution processes, and payment reconciliation.\nCommitment to continuous improvement and willingness to identify opportunities that enhance efficiency and service delivery.\nBehavioral:\nCollegiality building strong relationships on company-wide, approachable, and helpful, ability to mentor and support team growth. \nInitiative: readiness to lead or take action to achieve goals.\nCommunicative: ability to relay issues, concepts, and ideas to others easily orally and in writing.\nMember-focused: going above and beyond to make our members feel seen, valued, and appreciated.\nDetail-oriented and thorough: managing and completing details of assignments without too much oversight.\nFlexible and responsive: managing new demands, changes, and situations.\nCritical Thinking: effectively troubleshoot complex issues, problem solve and multi-task.\nIntegrity & responsibility: acting with a clear sense of ownership for actions, decisions and to keep information confidential when required.\nCollaborative: ability to represent your own interests while being fair to those representing other or competing ideas in search of a workable solution for all parties.\nMinimum Qualifications:\nAssociates Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience\n2-5 years of collections or accounts receivable experience\nStrong analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills\nExperience managing account portfolios\nExperience using AR systems and working with customers\n Proficiency using Microsoft Office products, including Excel (data sorting, filtering, basic formulas), Outlook (individual and shared mailboxes), Teams, and SharePoint\nAbility to learn and navigate multiple systems and databases.\nAs this role is a remote role, you are required to maintain internet service that allows you to complete your essential job duties without issue. Rates of 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload while hardwired and not on a VPN are sufficient.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience within the vision, dental, healthcare, insurance, or benefits administration industry.\nExperience with ERP systems, billing platforms, CRM systems, or insurance administration systems.\nExposure to process improvement, automation initiatives, or workflow optimization projects.\nFamiliarity with audit support, and internal control processes.\nExperience with high-volume collections environments.\nAt Avēsis, we strive to design equitable, and competitive compensation programs.
