For more information, visit aviatrix.ai\nAbout the Role - Staff Engineer, Cloud Networking & Network Security\nWe are seeking a Staff Engineer - Cloud Networking & Network Security to design, build, and evolve cloud-native networking and security capabilities across multi-cloud environments. This role is intended for a strong hands-on networking engineer with deep experience in routing, NAT, traffic forwarding, and firewall data planes. You will work on complex, production-grade networking systems and contribute to architecture and design decisions within your domain, while partnering closely with senior engineers and architects.\nYou will be responsible for delivering robust networking functionality-from detailed design and implementation through production rollout, scale, and operational maturity.\nKey Responsibilities\nNetworking Design & Implementation\nDesign and implement networking components for cloud networking and security products, spanning both control plane and data plane.\nContribute to architectural designs for routing, NAT, traffic steering, and firewall enforcement within defined product areas.\nOwn medium-to-large technical problem areas and drive them from design through production.\nCloud Networking Platforms\nDesign and work with cloud networking topologies, including:\nVPC/VNet segmentation and routing architectures\nHub-and-spoke and transit networking models\nHybrid and multi-cloud connectivity patterns\nWork hands-on with cloud-native networking constructs such as:\nGateways, routing tables, NAT gateways\nManaged and custom firewall services\nEnsure implementations align with security best practices and zero-trust principles.\nRouting, NAT & Traffic Engineering\nDesign and implement routing-centric features, including:\nDynamic routing using BGP\nPolicy-based routing and traffic steering\nRoute summarization, convergence, and failure handling\nImplement and scale NAT functionality, including:\nSNAT, DNAT, and bidirectional NAT\nCentralized vs distributed NAT designs\nCapacity planning, port exhaustion handling, and resiliency\nDevelop a strong understanding of packet-level behavior across gateways, firewalls, and load balancers.\nFirewall & Data-Plane Systems\nContribute to the design and implementation of firewall data planes, including:\nPolicy evaluation and enforcement pipelines\nStateful vs stateless inspection models\nWork on performance-sensitive packet processing paths with a focus on correctness and scalability.\nDebug complex scenarios involving asymmetric routing, NAT traversal, and multi-path traffic.\nExecution & Collaboration\nDeliver features from design to production with a strong focus on quality, scalability, and operability.\nParticipate actively in technical design reviews, providing feedback on networking correctness and performance.\nCollaborate closely with product management, QA, and operations teams to deliver reliable, shippable solutions.\nMentor junior engineers on networking fundamentals, packet flows, and troubleshooting techniques.\nRequired Skills & Experience\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Networking, or a related field.\n6+ years of experience building networking-intensive systems or cloud networking features.\nHands-on experience developing or operating cloud networking or network security products.\nStrong understanding of IP networking fundamentals, including:\nTCP/IP, ARP, ICMP\nSubnetting, CIDR planning, and IP address management\nSolid experience with routing, including:\nBGP fundamentals (design, policy control, troubleshooting)\nStatic vs dynamic routing models\nECMP and failover concepts\nStrong hands-on experience with NAT, including:\nSNAT and DNAT behavior\nCommon corner cases and failure scenarios\nInteraction of NAT with routing and firewalls\nExperience working with firewall and network security technologies, such as:\nPolicy-based rule engines\nStateful and stateless firewalls\nNGFW or cloud-native firewall services\nProficiency in Python and/or Go (Golang) for building control-plane services, tooling, or automation.\nGood understanding of distributed systems concepts as applied to networking control planes.\nFamiliarity with Kubernetes networking concepts, including CNI and service networking.\nHands-on experience with one or more public cloud networking stacks (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI).\nNice to Have\nExperience with virtual routers, SDN controllers, or network operating systems.\nExposure to high-performance packet processing technologies (eBPF, DPDK, XDP).\nExperience working on high-scale or latency-sensitive networking systems.\nContributions to open-source networking or cloud infrastructure
