Joining Aviva Specialty means stepping onto the ground floor of a thoughtfully designed Commercial Insurance organization built for the long term, blending underwriting heritage, disciplined execution, and capital strength with agility, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking.\nThe Opportunity\nAs a Senior Underwriter you will play a key role in building and growing Aviva Specialty’s Cyber portfolio, with responsibility for underwriting complex new and renewal business, managing broker relationships, and delivering disciplined, profitable growth.\nYou will independently evaluate cyber exposures, structure coverage and pricing, manage an assigned portfolio within delegated authority, and contribute market and technical insight as the business develops.\nThe successful candidate combines strong Cyber underwriting expertise, sound commercial judgment, analytical rigor, and a relationship-oriented approach to the broker marketplace.\nWhat You'll Do\nUnderwriting & Portfolio Management\nIndependently underwrite complex Cyber new and renewal business within delegated authority, balancing profitable growth with disciplined risk selection.\nEvaluate account-specific Cyber exposures, cybersecurity controls, operational dependencies, claims history, financial performance, industry characteristics, and other relevant risk factors.\nDetermine appropriate pricing, limits, retentions, coverage terms, conditions, and policy structure.\nManage an assigned portfolio against premium, profitability, retention, rate adequacy, exposure management, and underwriting quality objectives.\nMonitor aggregation risk, systemic cyber exposures, ransomware trends, regulatory developments, emerging technologies, and market conditions relevant to underwriting decisions.\nEscalate risks outside delegated authority or risk appetite and support effective underwriting referrals.\nBusiness Development & Broker Management\nBuild and maintain productive relationships with wholesale, retail, national, regional, and specialty broker partners aligned to Aviva’s distribution strategy.\nDevelop a quality submission pipeline and identify new business opportunities that support profitable portfolio growth and diversification.\nClearly communicate Aviva’ Specialty's Cyber appetite, product capabilities, underwriting decisions, and value proposition to trading partners.\nParticipate in broker meetings, stewardship discussions, client presentations, and relevant industry events.\nPartner with Distribution colleagues on targeted broker strategies and market engagement.\nTechnical, Governance & Collaboration\nMaintain current knowledge of the evolving Cyber threat environment, insurance market, claims trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies.\nEnsure underwriting files and decisions are complete, accurate, timely, and consistent with underwriting guidelines, authority frameworks, governance standards, and risk appetite.\nContribute technical insight to portfolio reviews, underwriting guidance, appetite discussions, product enhancements, and process improvements.\nPartner with Claims, Actuarial, Product, Distribution, Risk Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Compliance to support underwriting and portfolio objectives.\nServe as a technical resource and share market knowledge with colleagues without formal people-management accountability.\nWhat You'll Bring\n5-8+ years of commercial or specialty insurance underwriting experience, including meaningful experience underwriting Cyber risks.\nDemonstrated ability to underwrite complex middle-market and/or large commercial Cyber accounts.\nStrong knowledge of Cyber insurance coverage, cybersecurity exposures, risk assessment, pricing, and portfolio management principles.\nProven ability to independently make underwriting decisions and manage business within delegated authority.\nStrong broker relationship management, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.\nStrong analytical judgment and ability to balance growth opportunities with underwriting discipline.\nBachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Economics, or related discipline\nPreferred Qualifications\nCPCU, ARM, RPLU, AU, AINS, or other relevant professional insurance designation.\nEstablished relationships within the U.S. Cyber insurance broker marketplace.\nExperience with specialty and/or wholesale distribution.\nExperience with portfolio analytics, aggregation management, and profitability analysis.\nExperience operating in a growth-stage or build environment.\nWhat You'll Gain\nAt Aviva Specialty, we put people first: our colleagues, our customers, and our communities.
