As part of the Security Operations Centre (SOC), the analyst is responsible for monitoring security activity, investigating alerts, performing initial incident triage, and supporting the response to potential security incidents.\nThis role is suited for individuals who have a strong foundation in cybersecurity concepts, demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills, and are interested in developing their career within security operations.\nThe position operates within a 24/7 Security Operations Centre, and candidates should be comfortable working rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.\nPrincipal Responsibilities\nMonitoring and Analysis:\nRegularly monitor security alerts and events, conduct initial analysis, and respond to potential security incidents.\nIncident Triage and Response:\nAssist in the initial triage of security incidents, escalating to higher-level analysts when necessary.\nCollaborate with the incident response team to implement response plans and mitigate security threats.\nAlert Investigation:\nInvestigate and analyse alerts generated by security tools (EDR, NDR, SIEM) to identify potential security incidents.\nDocument investigation findings and provide detailed reports for further analysis.\nShift Handover and Collaboration:\nProvide structured handovers of ongoing investigations between Security Operations Centre shifts.\nReview and accept cases transferred from previous shifts.\nMaintain appropriate ownership of investigations until resolution, escalation, or formal handover.\nSecurity Documentation:\nContribute to the development and maintenance of security documentation, procedures, and incident response plans.\nContinuous Learning:\nStay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.\nParticipate in training and development programmes to enhance skills and knowledge.\nExperience:\nBachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.\nLess than 2 years of professional experience in cybersecurity or a related role.\nFoundational understanding of cybersecurity principles, security monitoring, and incident response.\nBasic understanding of common cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques.\nFamiliarity with security monitoring and investigation concepts.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities.\nGood written and verbal communication skills.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nPractical exposure to security monitoring, incident investigation, IT operations, technical support, or system administration.\nShows foundational competence in at least two operational domains (e.g. Security Intelligence, Identity Management, Compliance, Secured Infrastructure, Secured Development, or Security Education).\nUnderstanding of endpoint, identity, network, cloud, and email security concepts.\nFamiliarity with phishing investigation and basic threat intelligence analysis.\nKnowledge of common security frameworks and incident response methodologies.\nExperience working within a shift-based or 24/7 operational environment is advantageous.\nEntry-level cybersecurity certifications are beneficial but not mandatory.\nCareer Development:\nThe Security Operations Analyst I position provides a strong foundation for developing a career within cybersecurity and Security Operations.
