About the role | Mō te tūranga:

We are seeking a motivated Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Haematology Department in Mt Wellington, Auckland. This is a permanent, full-time role (80 hours per fortnight) within a modern, well-equipped laboratory that provides a broad range of routine and specialist diagnostic testing using the latest automated technologies.

We are currently recruiting for one technician on rotating shift to support our 24/7 service delivery. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build or further develop your career in haematology, working alongside a supportive and experienced team in a fast-paced hospital environment where quality, learning, and collaboration are strongly valued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialised haematology testing in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  • Operate and maintain automated analysers and laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with specimen processing and result verification.
  • Support quality assurance, quality control, and compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Participate in troubleshooting, workflow management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with scientists, technicians, and clinical staff to deliver timely and accurate results.
  • Contribute to training and professional development within the department.

About you | He kōrero mōu

To be successful in this role you need to have:

  • A methodical approach and commitment to following strict quality procedures.
  • A strong team ethic, initiative, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to make swift and informed decisions in a high-throughput, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Hands-on practical experience and a sound knowledge of laboratory operations including safety and operation of equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Previous experience in a Haematology laboratory (desirable).
  • Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Technician is a desirable, but not essential.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
