The role combines people leadership, portfolio management and hands-on underwriting responsibility across Specialty product lines.\nWhat you’ll be doing\nPortfolio management\nDevelop and execute annual plans for Specialty portfolios.\nMonitor premium, retention, profitability, rate, exposure and portfolio mix.\nIdentify growth opportunities while maintaining underwriting discipline.\nRecommend corrective actions where portfolio performance falls outside plan.\nUnderwriting\nUnderwrite and manage complex or strategically important accounts.\nEnsure appropriate risk selection, pricing, terms, conditions and documentation.\nProvide referrals, technical guidance and peer review to underwriters.\nMaintain compliance with underwriting authorities, governance standards and regulatory requirements.\nUnderwrite and manage the broad Large Commercial and Specialty Delegated Underwriting Authority portfolio. \nStrategy execution\nTranslate Specialty’s strategic direction into team priorities and measurable actions.\nSupport streamlined renewal approaches for suitable low-touch and no-touch business.\nImprove underwriting capacity so the team can focus on new and higher-value business.\nMarket engagement\nBuild outstanding relationships with brokers, clients and distribution partners.\nRepresent the broad Specialty capabilities in market meetings and negotiations.\nSupport new-business development and retention of key accounts.\nMonitor competitor activity and communicate emerging market trends.\nProfitably expand and grow our broker lead delegated portfolios. \nCross-functional collaboration\nPartner with Claims, Actuarial, Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance and Reinsurance.\nEnsure portfolio decisions reflect claims trends, exposure information and financial objectives.\nContribute to country, regional and product initiatives.\nProvide clear reporting on performance, opportunities and emerging risks.\nRobust understanding of underwriting governance and delegated authority.\nLead, coach and develop a high-performing underwriting team.\nYou will report to Head of Large Commercial Canada\nWhat you’ll bring\nWe’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:\nRequired Skills and Abilities:\nSignificant commercial insurance underwriting experience, including Marine or Specialty products.\nPrevious team leadership, coaching or supervisory experience.\nExperience managing complex accounts and broker relationships.\nRelevant degree or equivalent professional experience.\nInsurance designation such as CIP, FCIP, ACII or equivalent is an asset.\nDesired Skills and Capabilities\nProfitable portfolio growth and retention.\nAchievement of rate, premium and underwriting-plan targets.\nRobust governance and underwriting-quality outcomes.\nIncreased team capability, engagement and succession readiness.\nSuccessful implementation of streamlined renewal processes.\nWho we are\nAXA XL, the P&C and specialty risk division of AXA, is known for solving complex risks.
