The Mt Clemens facility is a key automotive coatings production site focused on delivering high-quality, innovative paint products to customers.\nPosition Summary:\nThe Engineering Manager is a critical site leadership role responsible for leading all engineering functions at the Mt. Clemens plant. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing processes and infrastructure, while driving capital project execution, process optimization, and long-term site strategy.\nThe Engineering Manager leads a team of process, project, and controls engineers and partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, EH&S, and Quality to deliver operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.\nKey Responsibilities:\nLeadership & People Management\nLead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team across multiple disciplines\n\nSet clear performance expectations and ensure accountability to site goals\n\nBuild bench strength through talent development, succession planning, and recruitment\n\nFoster a culture aligned to Axalta values, safety, and continuous improvement\n\nOperational & Technical Leadership\nProvide engineering support to ensure safe, stable, and efficient plant operations\n\nLead troubleshooting of complex process and equipment issues\n\nDrive improvements in asset reliability, uptime, and process capability\n\nPartner with Maintenance to implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies\n\nProcess Safety & Regulatory Compliance\nEnsure full compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM), OSHA, and environmental regulations\n\nOwn and govern key safety processes including:\nProcess Hazard Analyses (PHA)\n\nManagement of Change (MOC)\n\nPre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)\n\nJob Hazard Analyses (JHA)\n\nLead risk mitigation activities and ensure safe design and operation of processes\n\nCapital Projects & Site Strategy\nLead development and execution of the site capital plan, including:\nSafety and compliance projects\n\nReliability and maintenance improvements\n\nCapacity and growth initiatives\n\nManage project execution from concept through commissioning\n\nEnsure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned to business objectives\n\nPartner with corporate engineering teams to align to long-term strategy\n\nContinuous Improvement & Productivity\nDrive Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives\n\nUtilize data and metrics to improve:\nCost efficiency\n\nThroughput\n\nQuality performance\n\nLead FMEAs, root cause analysis (RCA), and process optimization efforts\n\nFinancial & Budget Management\nManage the Engineering capital and expense budgets\n\nEnsure effective allocation of resources across priorities\n\nDeliver cost control while supporting operational and growth objectives\n\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nPartner with:\nOperations to support production performance\n\nQuality to ensure product integrity and compliance\n\nEH&S to drive a strong safety culture\n\nMaintenance to improve equipment reliability\n\nServe as a key member of the site leadership team\n\nMinimum Qualifications:\nBachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical preferred)\n\n7+ years of progressive engineering experience, including leadership responsibility\n\nDemonstrated experience in chemical or manufacturing environments\n\nProven ability to lead teams and influence across functions\n\nStrong experience with:\n\nPSM / PHA processes\n\nCapital project execution\n\nBudget management\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in coatings, chemical, or regulated manufacturing environments\n\nLean / Six Sigma certification\n\nExperience managing multi-million-dollar capital projects\n\nKnowledge of controls/automation systems\n\nWork Environment and Expectations:\nManufacturing / plant environment\n\nAbility to support off-shift or weekend needs as required\n\nHigh visibility role requiring frequent collaboration and decision-making\n\nThis is an active opening for which we are recruiting to fill immediately.\nAxalta operates its business in two segments: Performance Coatings and Mobility Coatings, which serve four end markets, including Refinish, Industrial, Light Vehicle and Commercial Vehicle, across North America, EMEA, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
