This position serves as the technical expert for hazard identification, risk assessment, machine safety, electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and integration of safety requirements into operational procedures.\nThe role will partner closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Field Service, RD&E, and Operations leadership to ensure hazards are identified and controlled throughout the equipment lifecycle. The position requires the ability to understand and analyze complex equipment build instructions, maintenance procedures, service documentation, and operating practices to develop practical and effective risk controls.\nThis position is a critical component of the company's strategy to transition from a compliance-focused EHS program to a proactive operational risk management system.\nPrimary Responsibilities\nRisk Assessment Leadership\nLead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise risk assessment programs.\nConduct and facilitate risk assessments across manufacturing, logistics, engineering, demonstration, and field service operations.\nMaintain and expand risk assessment coverage for existing work areas and newly identified operational activities.\nPrioritize risk reduction efforts based on severity, frequency, and exposure.\nDevelop standardized risk assessment methodologies and tools.\nProcedure-Based Hazard Analysis\nReview and analyze manufacturing instructions, maintenance procedures, installation procedures, and service documentation.\nIdentify hazards and required controls associated with specific tasks and equipment.\nIntegrate risk assessment findings directly into operating procedures and work instructions.\nEnsure procedures clearly communicate hazard controls, safe work practices, PPE requirements, and energy control requirements.\nSupport integration of risk assessment information into operational systems and digital work platforms.\nTechnical Safety Programs\nProvide technical leadership for:\nLockout/Tagout (LOTO)\nElectrical Safety\nMachine Guarding\nMaterial Handling\nChemical Safety\nEquipment Commissioning and Startup Safety\nContractor Safety\nPreventive Maintenance Safety Programs\nContinuous Improvement\nDevelop EHS performance metrics related to risk reduction activities.\nIdentify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through risk management.\nBenchmark industry best practices and emerging technologies.\nLead and support strategic EHS improvement projects.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation\nBachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Technology, or related technical discipline.\nExperience\n7+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, engineering, industrial equipment, semiconductor, automation, machinery, or similarly complex technical environments.\nExperience conducting formal risk assessments and hazard analyses.\nExperience supporting machinery, manufacturing operations, technical service organizations, or engineering functions.\nExperience with safety program development and implementation.\nTechnical Aptitude\nAbility to:\nRead and interpret technical drawings\nUnderstand mechanical systems\nReview electrical schematics\nAnalyze equipment build instructions\nReview maintenance procedures\nUnderstand equipment installation and service processes\nWork effectively with engineering and technical teams\nPreferred Qualifications\nProfessional Engineer (PE) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)\nCertified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE)\nExperience supporting semiconductor manufacturing or capital equipment industries\nExperience with Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), or similar risk methodologies\nEQUAL OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT\nIt is the policy of Axcelis to provide equal opportunity in all areas of employment for all persons free from discrimination based on race, sex, religion, age, color, national origin, disability status, medical condition (including pregnancy), veteran status, sexual orientation, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.
