The SDET applies software engineering practices to improve testability, reliability, and delivery speed throughout the software development lifecycle. This role partners closely with Product, Development, DevOps, Project, and Production Support teams to define quality strategies, prevent defects, and deliver secure, resilient, and maintainable solutions.Responsibilities\nWorks as part of an Agile cross-functional team to define the test strategy, acceptance criteria, and automation approach for new features and enhancements.\nDesigns, develops, reviews, and maintains reliable automated tests and reusable test components using sound software engineering principles.\nBuilds and evolves automation frameworks, test utilities, data-management solutions, and service mocks that support Web UI, API, database, integration, and mobile testing.\nIntegrates automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and establishes fast, actionable quality feedback at appropriate stages of delivery.\nReviews requirements, architecture, technical designs, and code changes to identify risks, improve testability, and prevent defects early.\nDevelops effective functional, integration, contract, regression, and end-to-end tests based on product and technical risk.\nInvestigates test failures and production defects using logs, queries, traces, and other diagnostic data; documents findings and partners with engineers through resolution.\nImproves automation reliability, execution time, maintainability, observability, and coverage while reducing flaky tests and redundant manual validation.\nContributes to coding standards, peer reviews, technical documentation, and engineering practices for quality-related code and tooling.\nUses quality metrics and defect trends to identify systemic risks and recommend improvements to product design, development, testing, and release processes.\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\n3+ years of experience in software development, quality engineering, or test automation, including ownership of production-grade automated test solutions.\nStrong programming skills in JavaScript or TypeScript; experience with an additional language such as Java, C#, or Python is preferred.\nExperience designing or extending test automation frameworks using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium WebDriver, Appium, or equivalent technologies.\nExperience testing REST APIs and distributed integrations, including authentication, data validation, error handling, and service contracts.\nProficiency in writing and troubleshooting SQL queries in Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server.\nExperience integrating automated tests with source control, build systems, and CI/CD pipelines.\nWorking knowledge of software design, object-oriented or modular programming, data structures, debugging, and code-review practices.\nStrong understanding of Agile delivery, the software development lifecycle, test levels, risk-based testing, and defect-prevention practices.\nStrong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical risks and influence quality decisions across teams.\nAdditional Qualifications\nFinancial services, fintech, or consumer banking experience, including familiarity with security, privacy, auditability, and regulatory expectations.\nExperience with cloud platforms, containerized environments, service virtualization, messaging systems, or microservice architectures.\nExperience with performance, accessibility, security, resilience, or reliability testing.\nExperience using observability and diagnostic tools for logs, metrics, traces, and production troubleshooting.\nExperience with low-code/no-code automation tools and the judgment to select code-based or low-code approaches appropriately.\nDemonstrated ability to mentor peers, champion engineering standards, and drive continuous improvement across teams.\nKey Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nApplies an engineering mindset to quality by building maintainable solutions, designing for testability, and addressing root causes rather than relying on repetitive manual validation.\nDemonstrates strong coding, debugging, systems-thinking, and problem-solving skills across user interfaces, services, databases, and integrated platforms.\nBalances test depth, execution speed, maintainability, and business risk when selecting automation approaches.\nTakes ownership of quality outcomes, proactively identifies risks, and constructively challenges requirements, designs, and release decisions when evidence warrants it.\nCollaborates effectively with engineers and non-technical stakeholders while communicating defects, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly.\nPlans, prioritizes, and delivers independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.\nAbout Axos\nBorn digital-first, Axos delivers financial tools and services that allow individuals, small businesses, and companies to access and manage their money how, when, and where they want.
