We use cutting-edge AI and engineering tools to build cutting-edge agentic technology-both for our customers and for our own development workflows.\nTasks\nYour role\nAs Principal Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical leadership across our product, integration platform and production infrastructure.\nWorking closely with the CTO and engineering team, you will set technical direction, make critical architectural decisions and help other engineers deliver independently. You will remain close to code and production without becoming the bottleneck for every difficult problem.\nYour responsibilities\nEvolve the architecture of Ayunis Core across frontend, backend, agent runtime, identity, permissions and extension interfaces.\nOwn the technical direction of our infrastructure, including deployments, reliability, observability, security and incident readiness.\nBuild stable APIs, SDKs and reusable integration patterns for external systems such as document management systems and identity providers.\nMake pragmatic trade-offs between delivery speed, simplicity and long-term maintainability.\nWork with Product and customer-facing teams to turn recurring needs into reusable product capabilities.\nCollaborate with open-source contributors, software vendors and integration partners.\nRequirements\nWhat you bring\nExperience operating at Staff, Principal or a comparable level in a production software environment.\nStrong backend and systems architecture skills, ideally with TypeScript and Node.js.\nHands-on experience with agent runtimes like LangChain, OpenAI Agent SDK, Mastra or similar.\nHands-on experience with sovereign infrastructure, containers, CI/CD, scaling, observability and security.\nExperience designing APIs and integrations, such as OAuth/OIDC, webhooks, synchronization or event-driven systems.\nThe ability to move between high-level architecture and hands-on implementation and debugging.\nA pragmatic product mindset: you judge technical decisions by their effect on reliability, delivery speed and customer value.\nThe ability to set technical direction and lead engineers without relying on formal authority.\nAn interest in using and systematically improving AI-assisted software development.\nConfident communication in German and English.\nOur stack\nTypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, React, TanStack, PostgreSQL, Redis, S3-compatible storage, Docker Compose, Hetzner, GitHub Actions, OpenTelemetry and multiple LLM providers.\nNo LangChain though - we've built our agent orchestration from the ground up.\nBenefits\nWhat we offer\nA competitive salary\n€2,000 annual personal development budget\n30 days of holiday\nSignificant influence over an open-source product and engineering organization\nFlexible working hours, hybrid work and EU workations\nModern Munich office and equipment\nRegular team events and off-sites\nPublic transport subsidy and Wellpass\nInterested?
