If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!\nWhat will you be doing?\nThe purpose of this role is to design, build, and maintain custom software solutions that extend the functionality of our platform and connect it with the systems of our partners, customers, and third-party services, ensuring reliable and secure data exchange throughout. The primary focus of the role is on extending existing functionality and building integrations, with the Developer also designing and delivering full standalone solutions for customers, and occasionally for internal use, as requirements demand.\nThe Developer will design and implement solutions end to end, resolve issues in development and production, and contribute to a resilient, observable and maintainable technology platform. The Developer is accountable for delivering custom solutions from initial design and implementation through to secure, reliable operation in production, whether that solution extends an existing system, integrates it with another, or stands alone. The role sits at the intersection of software development and solution architecture, works closely with internal teams and external customers to understand requirements and define data contracts, upholds engineering standards through code reviews and clear documentation, and, as opportunities arise, cross-skills into other development projects across the business. \nMain Accountabilities\nThe role holder will be directly accountable for delivering the following technical and delivery objectives, with measurable outcomes aligned to agreed engineering standards, security requirements, and solution reliability, maintaining a hands-on approach when required:\nSolution & Integration Design and Development\nDesign, develop, and maintain custom solutions using .NET (C#, .NET Core / .NET 6+), primarily by extending existing platform functionality and building integrations between internal and external systems.\nBuild and consume RESTful APIs, alongside other interfaces such as SOAP, GraphQL, or messaging/event-based integrations where relevant; version, publish and maintain APIs to consistent standards.\nDesign and build full standalone solutions for customers, and occasionally for internal use, where requirements go beyond extending or integrating existing systems, taking a solution from requirements through to delivery.\nSecurity & Authentication\nImplement secure authentication and authorisation across the solutions and integrations you build, applying the appropriate methods (e.g., OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, API keys, mutual TLS) for each scenario.\nMonitoring, Troubleshooting & Reliability\nTroubleshoot solution and integration failures, data mismatches, and performance issues across development and production environments, debugging across system and application boundaries to isolate root causes.\nMonitor solutions and integrations in production and contribute to logging, alerting, and observability practices to support prompt detection and resolution of issues.\nDocumentation, Collaboration & Engineering Standards\nWrite clear technical documentation for the solutions, APIs, and integrations you build, ensuring they are usable by both internal teams and external consumers.\nCollaborate with internal teams and external customers to understand requirements, define data contracts and integration specifications, and translate them into technical designs, setting expectations and communicating progress throughout delivery.\nParticipate in code reviews and help uphold engineering standards across the team, contributing to CI/CD practices and Git-based workflows.\nThe Employer reserves the right to amend the employee's job title or description to meet its business needs subject to giving the employee reasonable notice.\n Solid commercial experience developing in .NET (C#, .NET Core / .NET 6+), able to work independently on a feature or solution as well as part of a team. \nStrong familiarity with API development, including designing, building, versioning, and consuming RESTful web APIs.\nExperience building custom features, extensions, or applications, in addition to integration work, ideally including some exposure to delivering a standalone solution for a customer or internal team.\nGood understanding of security concepts as they apply to applications, integrations and APIs, including secure handling of data in transit and at rest.\nPractical experience with authentication and authorisation methods, such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, API keys, and mutual TLS, and an understanding of when each is appropriate.\nComfortable working with common data formats such as JSON and XML, and familiar with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices.\nStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to take a solution from requirements through to production support, debugging across system boundaries where needed.\nWhat Else Looks Good For This Role\nExperience with message brokers or event-driven architectures (e.g. Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, Kafka). \nFamiliarity with cloud platforms, with Azure preferred.\nExposure to integration platforms or middleware (e.g. Azure Logic Apps, MuleSoft, BizTalk).\nUnderstanding of API gateways and rate limiting.\nAwareness of common security standards and threats, such as the OWASP API Security Top 10.\n Why work for Babble?\nPension: Statutory pension provision\nSick Leave: 20 days’ statutory sick pay\nWork Environment: Full-time, office-based role\nParental Leave: Statutory maternity and paternity leave \nThe recruitment journey\nWe want to fill this role quickly, but we want to get the right person.
