In this role, you will develop robust, maintainable embedded firmware that supports reliable and on-time equipment launches. You will translate customer and system needs into clear firmware requirements, develop real-time controls and interfaces, support New Product Introduction (NPI) through the Stage-Gate process, and ensure product readiness through rigorous testing and documentation. You’ll work closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Product, Test, Operations, and Service teams to bring new equipment platforms from concept through successful release.\nWhat will you get to do?\nDevelop Reliable Embedded Firmware\nTranslate product and customer needs into clear firmware requirements, interfaces, behaviors, performance limits, and acceptance criteria.\nDevelop embedded C/C++ firmware, drivers, communication protocols, and real-time controls for equipment platforms and product variants.\nApply defensive design practices, watchdogs, and other techniques to meet required timing, safety, reliability, and performance expectations.\nMaintain clear, version-controlled specifications that support product design, verification, and release. \nPrototype, Test & Validate\nAccelerate equipment bring-up through prototyping, bench validation, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.\nInstrument boards and collect reproducible test data using scopes, analyzers, and other engineering tools.\nTroubleshoot integration issues and reconcile test results against models, requirements, and specifications.\nPlan firmware verification, develop test cases, and execute regression and system-level testing.\nProvide traceable test results, logs, and issue-closure documentation to demonstrate readiness throughout the NPI Stage-Gate process. \nIntegrate Firmware & Equipment Systems\nCollaborate with engineering partners on schematics, pinouts, timing, and system interfaces.\nValidate communications and interfaces including Ethernet, SPI, I²C, UART, RS-485, and Ethernet/IP.\nSupport integration with electronics, motion controls, I/O, and networked machine-to-machine systems.\nConfirm signal integrity, EMC robustness, and fail-safe behaviors under normal and edge-case operating conditions. \nStrengthen Software Development Practices\nSupport disciplined Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices, including requirements traceability, code reviews, static analysis, and continuous integration.\nDevelop and maintain unit and integration tests to improve firmware quality and prevent regressions.\nMaintain disciplined branching, configuration control, and release practices.\nCreate technical documentation including design notes, state diagrams, communication specifications, UI specifications, and release notes.\nMaintain source code, builds, and binaries using version control and tagged, reproducible releases. \nDrive Cross-Functional Execution\nPartner with Electrical, Mechanical, Product, Test, Operations, and Service teams throughout product development and launch.\nCoordinate cross-functional handoffs and priorities to keep development schedules on track.\nTriage defects by establishing clear priorities, ownership, and next steps.\nCommunicate technical risks, decisions, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nHelp ensure equipment builds and launches remain on time and meet established specifications. \nWhat Success Looks Like\nEmbedded firmware is reliable, maintainable, and ready to support successful equipment launches.\nFirmware requirements, specifications, test results, and release documentation are clear, traceable, and complete.\nHardware and firmware integration issues are identified and resolved early in the development process.\nVerification and validation activities provide objective evidence that products meet established requirements.\nSoftware development practices reduce defects and prevent regressions across product releases.\nCross-functional engineering teams have clear visibility into technical risks, priorities, and decisions.\nRequirements\nWhat You Will Bring\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent field; an advanced degree is preferred.\n10+ years of experience developing embedded firmware with shipped releases in electromechanical products.\nStrong C/C++ programming experience and knowledge of real-time control, drivers, bootloaders, and GUI fundamentals.\nExperience with communication protocols and interfaces including SPI, I²C, UART, RS-485, and Ethernet/IP.\nWorking knowledge of Linux for embedded applications.\nExperience with common microcontroller ecosystems, such as Microchip/MPLAB, NXP, or similar platforms.\nExperience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices, NPI Stage-Gate processes, verification planning, and regression testing.\nFamiliarity with Internet of Things (IoT) concepts and implementations.\nExperience with webpage development for embedded applications.\nExperience working with ERP systems;
