At Badger Meter, your contributions will ripple far beyond the workplace - creating lasting change for people and the planet.\nWhat You Will Contribute:\nJob Summary & Responsibilities\nAs a member of the accounting team, the Accountant - Indirect Tax manages the day-to-day sales and use tax and other indirect tax functions ensuring compliance and timely filing of returns and appropriate tax treatment of transactions. This role serves as the primary administrator of the sales tax software, Avalara and works cross functionally with other departments to ensure tax is applied correctly on customer quotes and invoices.\nResponsibilities include:\nPerform monthly journal entries and reconciliations of indirect tax general ledger accounts and resolve any variances. \nPrepare and file monthly, quarterly and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple states and jurisdictions. \nMaintain and monitor customer sales tax exemption certificates and related documentation to support appropriate tax treatment and audit readiness. \nServe as the administrator for Avalara, maintaining and optimizing the software to support accurate tax determination and ongoing compliance. \nAssist with sales and use tax audits, including gathering documentation and responding to information requests. \nManage the internal tax email address timely responding to messages. \nWork cross functionally with Credit and Sales to investigate and correct sales tax errors to ensure accurate tax calculation and reporting. \nReview and process credit memos to resolve customer sales tax issues. \nMonitor, respond to, and assist in resolving notices and correspondence from tax jurisdictions. \nWhen necessary, research indirect tax issues and identify applicable tax authorities, regulations, and guidance, summarize findings and propose solutions for review with management and external tax advisors, as appropriate. \nCollaborate with Accounting, Accounts Payable, Credit, Customer Care and Procurement to ensure proper tax classification and treatment of transactions and identify opportunities for process improvements. \nSupport and coordinate sales tax onboarding activities for newly acquired companies aligning processes to the Badger Meter compliance framework. \nAdditional responsibilities as assigned to support accounting functions and adapt to evolving business needs. \nQualifications & Skills\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field \nTwo to three years of accounting or tax experience, including at least one year of sales and use tax or other indirect tax experience, preferred. \nIntermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically excel, and the ability to learn and effectively use new software applications and technology \nProficiency with ERP systems and tax automation software is preferred \nCompetencies\nStrong attention to detail \nExcellent organizational, time management, written, and verbal communication skills \nSelf-motivated and capable of working independently \nStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders \nDemonstrated adaptability and willingness to embrace change to support business needs \nCompetitive Total Rewards at Badger Meter:\nCompetitive Pay\n\nAnnual Bonus\n\nEligible for Annual Pay Increases\n\nComprehensive Health, Vision, and Dental Coverage\n\n15 days Paid Time Off + 11 Paid Holidays\n\nTwo Ways to Save for Retirement: Badger Meter contributes 25 cents for every dollar you contribute to the plan, up to 7% of your eligible compensation.
