Job Description:

The Technical Author role will involve researching, developing, writing and reviewing technical information, providing guidance for new and existing service publications used by both UK and overseas customers.

This is an excellent opportunity, which would suit either an existing Technical Author, or an ex-UK Military Services maintainer, who can supplement their existing knowledge of military systems and equipment with the authorship training that BAE Systems can provide.

Core duties:

• You will create new technical documentation for Royal Navy publications such as Books of Reference (BRs), and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and amending/reviewing existing technical documentation, ensuring all information is up-to-date and accurate.Y
• You will work closely with Supportability/Design Engineers and equipment manufacturers to gather information including design drawings and installation guidance, to fully understand the impact the removals, additions and alterations have on technical documentation
• You will interpret engineering data, and where appropriate, querying and validating data, to ensure correct and accurate interpretation
• You will work with the Illustrators to produce supporting technical graphics

Essential Skills:

• You will have either a provenbackground in technical authoring, or military engineering experience, for instance Ex-Royal Navy operator/maintainer in any of the following disciplines: Mechanical / electrical power and propulsion, electronics, weapons, sensors or navigation systems
• You will have awareness or exposure to Royal Navy Books of Reference (BRs), Weapon and Marine Engineering Guides, and other service publications and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) - viewed in trilogiView. Understanding of military of civilian authoring standards
• You will be computer literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products or a exposure user of any of the following: Adobe FrameMaker (Structured & Unstructured), Arbortext S1000D editor or Eagle EPS, or similar toolsets. Where needed, training can be provided

The Technical Documentation & Information (Legacy) Team:

This role offers diverse day-today activities within a cohesive, friendly and collaborative team. Future career development could include progression into a Senior Technical Author position or other opportunities within the Supportability Engineering service hub.
