This is a civil engineering design role focused on preparing and delivering technical packages, applying sound engineering principles and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.\nYou will have a strong track record of undertaking civil engineering design and delivering project packages for approval, both independently and as part of a team. You will be confident managing your own technical work, contributing to project delivery and supporting the development of less experienced engineers.\nCan you prepare drainage, earthworks and utility infrastructure designs as part of a typical site development or highway package? Do you understand how to select appropriate pavement designs for different loading requirements, taking account of the ground conditions? Are you experienced in organising and procuring surveys to inform designs and reviewing their outputs? Do you understand the different challenges involved in delivering civil engineering designs in urban and rural environments?\nThese are some of the challenges our team works through, and we’re looking for an engineer who can bring their technical expertise, practical thinking and problem-solving skills to the table.\nIf you enjoy applying engineering theory, introducing innovative and sustainable solutions, working with Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD, and supporting and developing junior engineers, this could be your next step.\nYou will ideally be Chartered, Incorporated or nearing either level of professional registration, with experience delivering a variety of small and medium-sized projects and potentially managing individual design packages within larger projects.\nThis role can be based in our Warwick, Derby or London offices.\nWhat You’ll Do\nLead and deliver civil engineering design packages, including drawings, specifications, technical calculations and reports.\nDevelop civil engineering solutions covering drainage, earthworks, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), pavements and utilities.\nObtain technical and regulatory approvals for design packages.\nIdentify and implement practical, innovative solutions to overcome engineering challenges.\nManage small project teams and coordinate civil engineering deliverables within multidisciplinary projects.\nChampion quality assurance and technical compliance throughout project delivery.\nPrepare and review technical models, calculations and design outputs.\nReview subcontractor drawings for technical compliance.\nSupport tender submissions, fee proposals and project reporting.\nIncorporate sustainable and practical design solutions into project work.\nMentor and support the development of engineers, graduates and apprentices.\nProvide occasional construction-stage support when required.\n\nWhat You’ll Bring\nA degree in Civil Engineering, supported by evidence of continued professional development.\nChartered, Incorporated or nearing Chartership or professional registration through a relevant institution, such as ICE, CIHT or IHE.\nDemonstrable experience in civil engineering design, particularly drainage, earthworks, SuDS, pavements and utilities.\nProficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.\nExperience using civil engineering design software, including drainage design and modelling packages such as InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, Causeway PDS or InfoWorks ICM, or equivalent.\nKnowledge of Section 38, Section 278 and Section 104 agreements, together with relevant UK adoption standards.\nA solid understanding of current UK technical standards, publications, guidance, best practice and legislative requirements.\nExperience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.\nEligibility to obtain the required security clearance.\nA full, clean UK driving licence.\n\nInterested?\nIf you’re an experienced Civil Engineer looking for a role where you can take ownership of technical design, contribute to a varied project portfolio and support the development of others, we’d like to hear from you.\nJoin BakerHicks and bring your civil engineering expertise to our Highways team.\nApply today to take the next step in your engineering career.\nMany of the positions within our company are subject to security clearance or security assurance levels. \nThe successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements.\nIn some cases, additional nationality or residency criteria may also apply due to specific client or national security obligations.\nFurther information on National security clearance levels can be found on the UK Government website: (National security vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK) \nAbout BakerHicks \nWe’ve been innovating in design, engineering and project delivery since 1957 and operate from 14 locations for a truly European reach.
