The Patent Scientist will work with attorneys, inventors, and clients to evaluate innovative technologies, identify patentable concepts, and support the procurement of patent protection for new inventions. Candidates will also assist in evaluating competitor technologies and products.\nThis role is designed for recent Computer Science graduates or Engineers interested in exploring a career in intellectual property law. BakerHostetler anticipates hiring multiple Patent Scientists who will join as a cohort and receive hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to the patent prosecution process. No prior patent law experience is required.\nThe ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise, and effective manner is essential.\nResponsibilities\nEvaluate emerging technologies and product developments to identify potentially patentable innovations.\nCollaborate with inventors and technical teams to understand underlying concepts and inventive features.\nPrepare technical illustrations, figures, and supporting materials for patent applications.\nDraft patent applications, including detailed specifications and claims, with a focus on technical accuracy and clarity.\nReview prior art and cited references, develop response strategies, and assist with patent prosecution activities.\nParticipate in discussions with patent examiners and support efforts to advance applications toward allowance.\nAnalyze competitor technologies and intellectual property landscapes to support strategic decision making.\nAssist attorneys and clients in developing and managing patent portfolios.\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science required.\nRecent graduates are encouraged to apply.\nInterest in developing expertise in patent law or intellectual property.Eligibility and interest in sitting for the USPTO examination. Prior registration is not required.\nPrior patent law experience is not required.\nCoursework or practical experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, semiconductor technologies, software systems, or related technical fields is preferred.\nCandidates must have the interest and eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration examination.
