Marine Project Planner, Balaena Gibraltar
Could you turn complex vessel requirements into clear, practical plans that keep ship repair projects moving?
We are looking for an experienced Marine Project Planner who can bring structure, foresight and control to a busy programme of vessel repair, maintenance and overhaul projects at Balaena Gibraltar.
Who are we?
Balaena is a dynamic maritime group with more than 2,000 employees across Gibraltar, Padstow, Tyne, Birkenhead and Falmouth. Our network of 12 dry docks supports naval and merchant ship repair and shipbuilding across the UK and Mediterranean.
We combine heritage and technical credibility with ambitious plans for the future. Effective planning is central to that-helping our teams coordinate people, materials and equipment so projects can be delivered safely, efficiently and with confidence.
So what will you do?
You will develop, maintain and communicate accurate project schedules for vessel repair, maintenance and overhaul work, translating technical specifications into detailed, resourced plans.
Working closely with Project, Operations, Commercial and Supply Chain teams, you will monitor progress, identify risks and provide the planning insight needed to support informed decisions throughout each project.
This will include:
- Building and maintaining accurate project schedules in Microsoft Project.
- Translating vessel specifications and work scopes into detailed, resourced plans.
- Planning labour, materials, equipment and key project milestones.
- Tracking progress, managing planning risks and highlighting potential delays.
- Producing S-curves, progress reports and clear planning documentation.
- Supporting bid planning and providing input to commercial teams.
- Communicating schedule updates clearly to project stakeholders.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a commercially aware planner who understands the pace and complexity of marine engineering and can turn detailed information into practical, achievable schedules.
- Experience planning marine maintenance, repair or overhaul projects involving dry docks.
- Strong Microsoft Project skills and confidence producing and managing detailed schedules.
- A commercial planning background, ideally within engineering, ship repair or shipbuilding.
- An HNC or equivalent qualification as a minimum; a relevant degree would be an advantage.
- Strong organisation, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- The ability to remain accurate, responsive and solutions-focused in a fast-moving operational environment.
Why this role matters
Successful ship repair depends on clear, realistic planning. Your schedules and insight will help teams coordinate resources, respond to change and keep complex projects on track-directly influencing delivery, cost control and customer confidence.
