Our user base is growing quickly, and our team is remote-first across multiple countries.\n\nRole overview\n\nWe’re looking for a hands-on DevOps Tech Lead to lead our growing DevOps team and own the technical direction and day-to-day operation of our AWS infrastructure.\n\nReporting directly to the CTO, you’ll manage our existing DevOps engineer and help hire and develop the team as we grow. You’ll own infrastructure priorities, guide technical decisions, and work closely with development and QA to support reliable delivery.\n\nYou’ll combine hands-on infrastructure engineering with team leadership: improving production reliability, strengthening security, automating operations, and helping other engineers become more effective and independent.\n\nThis role suits someone who enjoys building and operating infrastructure, makes practical decisions, and can give a small team clear direction.\n\nWhat you’ll do\n\nLead and develop the DevOps team\n\nManage DevOps engineers through regular one-to-ones, clear goals, constructive feedback, and performance reviews.\n\nOwn day-to-day planning and prioritization, balancing infrastructure improvements with operational needs.\n\nHelp hire and onboard additional DevOps engineers.\n\nCoach engineers, review infrastructure changes, and encourage shared ownership.\n\nBuild documentation and cross-training practices that reduce dependence on individual team members.\n\nKeep the CTO informed about significant risks, capacity constraints, and decisions requiring business input.\n\nOwn infrastructure direction and delivery\n\nDevelop and maintain a practical infrastructure roadmap aligned with product growth and engineering priorities.\n\nLead infrastructure architecture decisions, balancing reliability, security, maintainability, and cost.\n\nRemain directly involved in implementation, troubleshooting, and production operations.\n\nPlan infrastructure upgrades and migrations with appropriate testing, rollback procedures, and documentation.\n\nEstablish clear practices for reviewing and delivering infrastructure changes.\n\nOperate reliable AWS environments\n\nOperate and improve production and staging environments.\n\nMonitor availability, performance, capacity, and AWS spending.\n\nMaintain backup and recovery procedures, including regular restoration tests.\n\nIdentify operational risks and address them before they become recurring incidents.\n\nWork with development and QA on deployment readiness, troubleshooting, and infrastructure needs.\n\nStrengthen infrastructure security\n\nOwn infrastructure security controls, including access management, patching, hardening, and vulnerability remediation.\n\nMaintain protection against malicious traffic, bots, and DDoS attacks using CloudFront, AWS WAF, and related services.\n\nImplement and maintain infrastructure controls that support the company’s security and compliance requirements.\n\nWork with the CTO and relevant stakeholders to address infrastructure risks and provide supporting documentation.\n\nImprove observability and incident response\n\nMaintain useful monitoring, logging, dashboards, health checks, and actionable alerts.\n\nLead infrastructure incident response and coordinate investigations with developers when application components are involved.\n\nMaintain clear escalation procedures and operational runbooks.\n\nReview incidents, identify contributing causes, and ensure follow-up improvements are completed.\n\nHelp establish sustainable production support coverage as the team grows.\n\nAutomate operations and improve delivery\n\nMaintain and improve infrastructure as code using CloudFormation.\n\nAutomate repetitive operational tasks using Bash or Python.\n\nImprove CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with development and QA.\n\nMake infrastructure changes reproducible, reviewable, and documented.\n\nIdentify opportunities to reduce manual work and make deployments safer and more predictable.\n\nWhat we’re looking for\n\nProduction infrastructure experience: Strong experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering, including direct responsibility for production AWS environments.\n\nTeam leadership: Experience leading DevOps or infrastructure engineers, setting priorities, giving feedback, and supporting their development.\n\nAWS: Strong hands-on experience with EC2, RDS/MySQL, VPC, CloudFront, WAF, IAM, CloudWatch, and S3.\n\nLinux and Docker: Strong production administration and troubleshooting skills.\n\nInfrastructure as code and automation: Practical experience with CloudFormation, Bash or Python, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.\n\nReliability: Experience with monitoring, incident response, backup restoration, recovery planning, and safe production changes.\n\nSecurity: A good understanding of infrastructure security, access control, patching, vulnerability management, and web traffic protection.\n\nTechnical judgment: The ability to explain tradeoffs, prioritize risks, and choose solutions appropriate to the team’s size and needs.\n\nOwnership: The ability to turn broad objectives into clear plans and follow work through to completion.\n\nCommunication: Clear documentation and English sufficient to lead technical discussions and coordinate incident response.\n\nAI-assisted tools: Comfort using AI-assisted engineering tools where appropriate.\n\nHelpful additional experience\n\nOperating infrastructure for healthcare or other products with sensitive data and compliance requirements.\n\nGrowing a small DevOps
