Our user base is growing quickly, and our team is remote-first across multiple countries.\n\nRole overview\n\nWe’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to help operate and improve the AWS infrastructure behind our telehealth platform.\n\nYou’ll work alongside our existing DevOps engineer and collaborate closely with development and QA. The role initially reports to the CTO, with a planned reporting line to a DevOps Tech Lead as we grow the team.\n\nYou’ll combine hands-on production operations with improvements to reliability, security, observability, and deployment automation. You’ll take ownership of infrastructure work from investigation and planning through implementation, documentation, and ongoing operation.\n\nThis role suits someone who works independently, makes sound technical decisions, and enjoys improving existing infrastructure while supporting a growing product.\n\nWhat you’ll do\n\nOperate and improve AWS infrastructure\n\nOperate and maintain production and staging environments, focusing on reliability, performance, security, and availability.\n\nDesign and implement infrastructure improvements that support product growth.\n\nPlan upgrades and infrastructure changes with appropriate testing, rollback procedures, and documentation.\n\nMonitor capacity and AWS spending, and identify practical opportunities for improvement.\n\nInvestigate infrastructure problems and follow them through to resolution.\n\nMaintain infrastructure security\n\nMaintain security controls, including access management, OS patching, hardening, and vulnerability remediation.\n\nMaintain protection against malicious traffic, bots, and DDoS attacks using CloudFront, AWS WAF, and related services.\n\nImplement infrastructure controls that support the company’s security and compliance requirements.\n\nIdentify and communicate infrastructure risks, and help prioritize remediation.\n\nKeep security-related infrastructure changes and procedures documented.\n\nImprove observability and incident response\n\nMaintain monitoring, logging, dashboards, health checks, and actionable alerts.\n\nInvestigate production incidents and coordinate with developers when application components are involved.\n\nImprove alert quality to reduce noise and make problems easier to diagnose.\n\nMaintain operational runbooks and clear escalation guidance.\n\nDocument incident causes and implement improvements that reduce recurrence.\n\nMaintain backup and recovery readiness\n\nMaintain backup policies, monitor backup health, and investigate failures.\n\nRegularly test restoration procedures and document the results.\n\nKeep recovery procedures current and usable by other engineers.\n\nIdentify gaps in recovery readiness and propose practical improvements.\n\nAutomate operations and improve delivery\n\nMaintain and improve infrastructure as code using CloudFormation.\n\nAutomate repetitive operational tasks using Bash or Python.\n\nMaintain and improve CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with development and QA.\n\nMake infrastructure changes reproducible, reviewable, and documented.\n\nImprove deployment safety and reduce manual operational work.\n\nCollaborate and share knowledge\n\nWork with development and QA on deployments, troubleshooting, and infrastructure changes.\n\nHelp prioritize planned improvements alongside production needs.\n\nExplain technical tradeoffs, risks, and dependencies clearly.\n\nShare knowledge through documentation, infrastructure reviews, and day-to-day collaboration.\n\nHelp other engineers understand and safely operate the infrastructure.\n\nWhat we’re looking for\n\nProduction infrastructure experience: Strong experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering, including independent responsibility for production AWS environments.\n\nAWS: Strong hands-on experience with EC2, RDS/MySQL, VPC, CloudFront, WAF, IAM, CloudWatch, and S3.\n\nLinux and Docker: Strong production administration and troubleshooting skills.\n\nInfrastructure as code and automation: Practical experience with CloudFormation, Bash or Python, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.\n\nReliability: Experience with monitoring, incident response, backups, restoration testing, and safe production changes.\n\nSecurity: A good understanding of infrastructure security, access control, patching, vulnerability management, and web traffic protection.\n\nTechnical judgment: The ability to investigate unfamiliar problems, explain tradeoffs, and choose solutions appropriate to the team’s needs.\n\nOwnership: The ability to clarify requirements, plan work, communicate progress, and follow tasks through to completion.\n\nCommunication: Clear documentation and English sufficient for technical discussions and incident coordination.\n\nAI-assisted tools: Comfort using AI-assisted engineering tools where appropriate.\n\nHelpful additional experience\n\nOperating infrastructure for healthcare or other products with sensitive data and compliance requirements.\n\nImproving an existing production environment while supporting ongoing product delivery.\n\nWorking in a small
