Banco Santander is a Spanish bank founded in 1857 in the port city that gives it its name, and it is now the largest bank in the eurozone by market value. Its unusual feature is geography: rather than concentrating at home it runs full retail banks in Spain, the United Kingdom, Poland, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Argentina, with a large United States consumer finance business alongside them. Headquartered in Madrid and listed there and in New York, it has been consolidating those national banks onto shared technology platforms and has built the digital bank Openbank as a pan-European deposit channel.

IT STARTS HERE

Santander (www.santander.com) is evolving from a global, high-impact brand into a technology-driven organization, and our people are at the heart of this journey. Together, we are driving a customer-centric transformation that values bold thinking, innovation, and the courage to challenge what’s possible.

This is more than a strategic shift. It’s a chance for driven professionals to grow, learn, and make a real difference.

Our mission is to contribute to help more people and businesses prosper. We embrace a strong risk culture and all our professionals at all levels are expected to take a proactive and responsible approach toward risk management.

Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB) is Santander's global division that supports some of the world's most complex and sophisticated corporate and institutional clients, offering customized services and value-added wholesale products to best meet their needs.

Banco Santander’s Economic Research Department provides economic and financial analysis to support the Group’s strategic decision-making and its planning, risk management and capital allocation processes.

Within the department, the Latin America area coordinates the macroeconomic analysis of the countries where Santander has a presence in the region and integrates local perspectives into a coherent regional view connected to the Group’s global economic outlook. It also participates in the design and preparation of the macroeconomic scenarios used in planning processes and stress-testing exercises, in close collaboration with the local Economic Research teams and the relevant corporate areas.

THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE

We’re shaping the way we work through innovation, cutting-edge technology, collaboration and the freedom to explore new ideas. To succeed in this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinate the macroeconomic analysis of Latin America, integrating the perspectives of local economic teams into a coherent and consistent regional view connected to the Group’s global economic outlook.

  • Participate in the design, preparation and monitoring of the macroeconomic scenarios used in the Group’s planning, budgeting and stress-testing processes, in collaboration with the local Economic Research teams and contributing independent judgment to the definition and challenge of the scenarios.

  • Analyze economic, financial and political developments in the region’s main countries, assessing their implications for Santander.

  • Ensure the consistency and quality of the economic forecasts, scenarios and narratives developed for the different Latin American countries, challenging their assumptions when necessary.

  • Act as a coordination point between the region’s Economic Research teams and the relevant corporate areas, facilitating the integration of the regional and global views.

  • Prepare reports, presentations and briefings to support the head of the area in interactions with senior management and corporate committees, as well as the planning and risk areas, translating complex economic issues into clear and relevant messages.

  • Contribute to cross-functional projects related to planning, risk management and macroeconomic analysis, providing the Latin American economic perspective.

  • Drive continuous improvement in the methodologies, tools and processes used for economic analysis and scenario development.

  • Promote the responsible and efficient use of artificial intelligence, automation and data analysis tools to enhance productivity and the quality of analytical work.

  • Contribute to the development of other team members through knowledge transfer, guidance and review of their work.

  • Represent Banco Santander at various forums and events on Latin America.
