The successful candidate will play a key role in executing institutional equity orders, providing liquidity solutions to clients, managing trading risk, and collaborating closely with Sales Trading, Research, ECM, Program Trading, and Capital Markets teams.\nThis is a client-facing role requiring strong market knowledge, exceptional execution skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume trading environment.\nKey Responsibilities\nExecute institutional client orders across Canadian and cross-border equities with a focus on best execution, minimizing market impact, and maximizing performance against benchmarks.\nCommit and manage firm capital on risk transactions within approved limits, actively monitoring intraday and overnight exposure.\nProvide liquidity, pricing, and market colour to institutional clients, partnering with Sales Trading to strengthen relationships and grow wallet share.\nManage positions and trading risk in real time, including hedging, inventory management, and P&L attribution.\nSupport ECM transactions, including bought deals, marketed offerings, block trades, and secondary distributions.\nCoordinate with Program Trading and Electronic Trading to deliver the full suite of execution capabilities, including algorithmic and portfolio-based solutions.\nContribute market intelligence, flow observations, and trade ideas that leverage the firm's Research platform and sector expertise.\nMaintain rigorous compliance with CIRO, Canadian securities regulations, and internal trading, conduct, and risk policies.\nIdentify opportunities to improve execution quality, workflow efficiency, and use of trading technology.\nQualifications\nMinimum 5-8 years of institutional cash equity trading experience at a broker-dealer or investment bank.\nDemonstrated ability to commit and manage capital, with a strong track record of risk-adjusted performance.\nDeep knowledge of Canadian and North American market structure, venues, and liquidity dynamics.\nCIRO-registered as a Trader (or eligible to register), with completion of the Canadian Securities Course, Conduct and Practices Handbook, and Trader Training Course.\nProficiency with order and execution management systems, algorithmic trading tools, and market data platforms such as Bloomberg.\nStrong client-facing communication skills and the ability to build credibility with institutional portfolio managers and buy-side traders.\nSound judgment under pressure, high attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to risk.\nUndergraduate degree required; CFA designation or progress toward it is an asset.\nAttributes\nCommercial mindset with a bias toward action and a strong sense of ownership.\nCollaborative team player who contributes to a high-performing, integrated trading floor.\nUnwavering commitment to integrity, regulatory compliance, and the firm's conduct standards\nPlease note the base salary for this role is $160,000 CAD.\nThis job posting is for a current vacancy.\nSalary:\nPay Type:\nSalariedThe above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.\nSalaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure.
