The role involves regular liaison with clients, client representatives and third parties on commercial matters, while actively identifying and realising commercial opportunities and mitigating business risk.\nRole Purpose\nTo support the successful commercial delivery of projects through effective cost control, reporting, subcontract management and contractual compliance. The role ensures accurate forecasting, cash management and value recovery while contributing to the continuous improvement of commercial processes and practices.\nKey Accountabilities\nCommercial Management & Governance\nEnsure internal commercial processes are adhered to across the business unit\nActively seek to improve commercial processes and procedures\nMaintain an understanding of JV / Alliance commercial processes where applicable and support their development\nSupport compliance with contractual and commercial governance requirements\nFinancial Performance\nEnsure robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at the project and business unit level\nProduce accurate cash flow reporting\nCarry out cost management and forecasting activities\nUpdate monthly CVRs, cost plans and commercial plans\nDemonstrate strong earned value and cost analysis capability\nContract & Risk Management\nEnsure main contract terms and conditions are appropriate, with commercial risks identified\nManage subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting\nEnsure supply chain engagement under correct contractual terms\nPrepare applications for payment\nLiaise with clients and third parties on variations, claims and additional payments\nLeadership & Capability\nContribute to effective collaboration between commercial and operational site teams\nShare best practice and proactively advise site teams on cost management\nWork both independently and collaboratively within the commercial team\nDevelop commercial acumen and technical capability\nStakeholder Management\nBuild and maintain effective client relationships\nWork closely with site management to forecast expenditure and cash recovery\nLiaise with subcontractors, suppliers and third parties on commercial matters\nSupport operational teams in meeting commercial and delivery targets\nKey Interfaces\nSenior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager\nProject Managers and Site Teams\nClients and Client Representatives\nSubcontractors and Suppliers\nCommercial and Operational Teams\nInter-company trading\nProactively optimise inter-company trading wherever possible\nCollaborate effectively within the corporate group entities\nSuccess Measures (KPIs)\nAccuracy and timeliness of cost, value and cash reporting\nEffective cost control and forecasting\nSuccessful recovery of variations and additional payments\nCompliance with commercial processes and governance\nQuality of supply chain management and client relationships\nAbout you\nEssential\nPrevious experience in the construction industry\nHND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying\nFamiliarity with ICE/NEC forms of contract and knowledge and understanding of Construction Law\nPrevious experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates, and accruals calculations.\nAbility to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis.\nHave knowledge and experience in estimation and cost analysis.\nExcellent communication, numeric and computer literacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office\nOrganisation and time management skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines\nAbility to work effectively in a team and delegate, but also able to work on own initiative\nDesirable\nMember of RICS or other relevant professional body, or working towards\nCSCS card\nCaring and investing in you\nOur values have been embedded at Barhale for over 40 years, and they are our guiding principles regarding how we care and invest in people.
