We employ over 1,200 employees nationwide.\nWe possess a range of specialist skills to support our civil engineering and infrastructure activities, including:\nTunnelling\nMEICA\nTemporary and permanent design\nSteel-fabrication\nSigns (design and fabrication)\nHealth & safety equipment and products, including PPE\nCompany Website:\nhttps://www.barhale.co.uk/\nCompany Showcase Video:\nhttps://youtu.be/uf_RG5xgM8M\nWhy join Barhale?\nAs Gold Investors in People, we are committed to a high standard of people practices, creating an inclusive environment and ensuring cultural alignment to business strategy, ethos and philosophies.\nJob security, long-term secured work through various frameworks and large infrastructure schemes\nA broad range of civil engineering, mechanical and electrical schemes across some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects and clients\nStrong career progression as demonstrated by our track record in promoting from within, as we believe this is a key driver of our success\nSenior Design Engineer\nThe Role\nThe purpose of this role is to lead and carry out detailed structural design and checking of temporary works and permanent works for civil engineering, and to provide technical support to design assist with operational activities.\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical design\nLead, prepare and oversee detailed technical designs (including calculations, drawings, risk assessments, design certificates)\nUndertake preliminary designs and coordination with other parties\nObtain independent checks and/or third-party technical approvals (e.g. for rail works)\nEnsure design outputs meet CDM, health and safety and environmental compliance\nTechnical support\nProvide technical information and advice\nPropose and/or develop value-engineered alternative solutions (during design or construction phases)\nUndertake a technical review of method statements for complex or unusual methods\nUndertake a review of defects or compensation events and advise on solutions\nAdministrative support\nAssist with the approval of external suppliers\nAssist with the developing and maintaining processes, procedures and standards for technical design\nObtain or provide pricing for estimating purposes\nGeneral responsibilities\nLiaise with clients, customers, suppliers and third parties as necessary\nAssist with promoting best practices internally\nAssist with promoting the Company to customers\nAbout you\nEssential\nPrevious experience within the structural engineering field, experience in the detailed design of structures either permanent or temporary works including the use of frame analysis software, structural design software and the use of CAD software for design purposes and sketches\nAbility to carry out calculations by hand or in software such as MathCAD\nWorking knowledge of relevant industry specifications (Eurocodes, BS 5975 and other BS standards for structural design still used in the industry)\nExperience in a structural engineering office carrying out design calculations, analysis and developing or following structural methodology and overseeing other team members\nDegree, or equivalent, in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering\nThorough knowledge of structural principles\nKnowledge of construction processes, methods, etc.\nEnsure designs meet performance, safety, quality and cost requirements.\nGood team worker and able to coach others, but also able to exercise own judgement and work independently and manage own time and tasks\nEffective communicator and able to assert own view\nAbility to identify structural suitability, critical load cases\nDesirable\nA mix of site and design office experience\nIncorporated or Chartered membership, or equivalent, with a relevant professional institution (or en route to achieving such a qualification)\nCSCS card\nCaring and investing in you\nOur values have been embedded at Barhale for over 40 years, and they are our guiding principles regarding how we care and invest in people.
