Baringa is looking for talented 2027 Summer Interns to join our Government & Public Sector team!

Our Internship

Our internship programmes will give you a first-hand view of life in an award-winning management consultancy firm. You will gain an understanding of the consulting business model as well as hands-on experience across the consulting project lifecycle, from understanding client challenges and analysing evidence through to developing recommendations and supporting delivery

As an intern you will join a real team, working and learning from experienced consultants, with exposure to meaningful client work alongside a structured programme to learn more about Baringa and working as a consultant.

About the Government team at Baringa

Our Government team helps departments, agencies and public services solve complex problems and deliver better outcomes for citizens. Our work spans Central Government, Home Affairs, and Health and Public Infrastructure, from redesigning services and strengthening operations to using data, technology and AI to improve decisions and delivery.

We work on Government’s most complex changes, partnering with departments across Whitehall and the wider public sector, using our skills in Strategy and Business Cases, Project Delivery, Operational Delivery, DDaT and Government Commercial.

The UK public sector is navigating significant challenges and opportunities, including the delivery of major national priorities and missions. As our Public Sector team continues to grow, we are looking for curious and motivated interns who are excited to learn, contribute and develop with us. You do not need previous consulting or public sector experience - we are interested in how you approach problems, learn new things and apply your skills to real-world challenges.

What you will be doing

We will embed you in a project for your internship period, working alongside a team of experienced consultants to learn whilst delivering real client outcomes. You will not be expected to know how to do all of this from day one. You will be supported throughout and given opportunities to build your skills through meaningful project work.

Depending on the project you join, you may have the opportunity to:

  • Analyse quantitative and qualitative information to identify insights, trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Explore how data, digital technology, automation or AI could help improve public services.
  • Develop recommendations and delivery plans, considering how people, technology and data work together.
  • Support the development of client materials, including presentations, reports, workshop outputs and project updates.
  • Contribute to meetings and workshop discussions, helping to capture key points, actions and decisions.
  • Learn how consulting teams work together to solve problems, structure ambiguous challenges and communicate clearly with clients and colleagues.

Examples of the type of projects you could be working on are:

  • Support transformation projects that help government and public sector organisations improve services, strengthen operations and deliver better outcomes for citizens.
  • Help review how services and processes work, from frontline delivery through to internal operations, identifying opportunities to make them simpler, more effective or more resilient.
  • Contribute to digital, data and analytics work, including projects that use AI or data-led approaches to help clients make better decisions.
  • Support the development of business cases and funding proposals, helping clients assess different options and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Help design how services should operate, looking at how people, processes, technology and data come together to deliver better results within operating models and service blueprints.
  • Support commercial and procurement activity, such as researching suppliers, comparing options and helping prepare materials for decision-making.

What are we looking for?

We welcome applications from students across a broad range of academic disciplines, including STEM and non-STEM subjects, and are particularly keen to hear from students who enjoy solving complex problems using evidence, data, technology and creative thinking. You do not need to have previous experience in consulting or the public sector - what matters most is your curiosity, willingness to learn and interest in helping public sector organisations solve complex challenges.

We are looking for people who are excited by the opportunity to learn how consulting teams work, contribute to meaningful client projects and develop their skills in a supportive environment. You may be a good fit if you bring:

  • Structured problem solving, with the ability to break down unfamiliar questions and identify what matters.
  • Data analysis skills, and comfort working with data to surface insight and support evidence-based recommendations.
  • Digital and AI literacy, with genuine curiosity about AI and its practical application, and a foundational understanding of how to use these tools responsibly and ethically.
  • Interest in policy, government and public service, and how national priorities translate into delivery on the ground.
  • Commercial and financial curiosity, with an interest in how money, value and delivery decisions shape public services, and comfort working with numbers to support them.
  • Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain ideas simply and structure your thinking in writing and conversation.
  • A collaborative approach, with enthusiasm for working in teams and learning from others.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt, particularly in a fast-paced project environment where priorities can evolve.
  • Attention to detail and ownership, taking pride in the quality of your work and following through on tasks.
  • A proactive attitude, with the confidence to ask questions, contribute ideas and get involved.

We do not expect you to have all the answers from day one. We are looking for potential, enthusiasm and a genuine interest in developing your consulting skills while contributing to work that matters.

What's in it for you?

This is an 8-week paid internship where you get real project experience alongside structured coaching and training with an opportunity to build your analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
