At NPL, we strive to create a positive impact, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders and promoting sustainable growth for future generations.\nNPL now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mine Technical Services Department as Engineer - Medium Term Planning - Mine Engineering Services Open Pit.\nAbout the role\nReporting to the Senior Engineer - Planning - Mine Engineering Services, the Medium Term Planning Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining medium-term mine plans that optimize production, safety, operational efficiency, and economic performance. The role bridges long-term strategic planning and short-term operational execution, typically from monthly to 1 year.\nThe engineer works closely with geology, operations, drill and blast, survey, geotechnical, and processing teams to ensure achievable and practical mine schedules aligned with business objectives.\nIn this role, you will:\nDevelop and maintain medium-term mine plans, production schedules, and sequencing strategies.\nGenerate rolling forecasts for ore and waste movement.\nPrepare designs for pit stages, pushbacks, stopes, haul roads, dumps, and stockpiles.\nFamiliarity with mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik, Vulcan, MineSched, or similar.\nEnsure plans align with life-of-mine strategy and annual budget targets.\nOptimize mine extraction sequences to maximize value and operational efficiency.\nConduct mining studies and trade-off evaluations.\nAnalyze production performance against plan and recommend corrective actions.\nMonitor mine productivity, dilution, ore loss, and equipment utilization.\nMaintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.\nAbout You\nTo succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.\nTertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering\nTypically, 3- 5 years of mining engineering experience.\nExperience in open pit and or underground mine planning.\nExposure to medium-term scheduling and operational mine planning.\nExperience with production forecasting and mining optimization.\nFamiliarity with mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik, Vulcan, MineSched, or similar.\nUnderstanding Life of Mine Planning and experience in sourcing and developing input to same.\nGeological modelling, mine planning & scheduling software packages.\nExtensive Open Pit Mine Planning experience (short term to medium term)\nGood computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.\nMobilization Requirement\nThis is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
