By blending people-centric leadership with disciplined operational strategies and purpose-driven growth, Barry-Wehmiller has become a $3 billion organization with nearly 12,000 team members united by a common belief: to use the power of business to build a better world.Job Description:\nPOSITION SUMMARY\nUnder general or minimal supervision, the Machinist fabricates parts for production units by blueprint specifications utilizing a variety of hand and major machine tools such as; a drill press, a grinder, deburring equipment, and manual and CNC lathe and mills.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS\nPerform all duties in a safe and responsible manor\nAbility to follow written and verbal instructions\nPossess a positive attitude towards all employees and create positive working relationships\nDemonstrate proper use of all safety equipment through everyday use and practice\nPerform material handling duties (part identification and handling, basic rigging)\nAbility to operate hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools related to Machinist responsibilities\nPerform duties as assigned by lead or supervisor\nAttend all required team and company meetings\nMaintain a neat, clean, and organized work area through continuous 7S efforts\nRead and understand basic drawings and schematics\nUnder direct supervision, perform basic part preparation and machining activities\nAbility to work independently with supervision (self-starter/self-motivated)\nAssist higher-level Machinist in the machining and fabrication process\nProvide input on quality, cost, and production issues\nAssist in the detection of defective material by inspecting incoming parts or stock for use in fabricating parts documenting unusual conditions, and report to supervisor\nComprehension of basic machining, tools, and fabrication tasks utilizing common shop standard practices\nDevelop a basic understanding of lean principals\nCleans, deburrs, and finishes parts to meet shop standards\nWith mentor, fabricates new and replacement parts for production units utilizing shop machines such as; lathes, mills, grinders and drills\nMaintains equipment in safe operating order by performing repairs on minor machine malfunctions and communicates issues to the respective supervisor \nDevelop a basic understanding of CNC programming\nPerform machinist tasks utilizing common machining practices\nEDUCATION\nHigh school diploma or equivalent. Military, trade school or community college coursework in hydraulic-mechanical assembly, repair, and troubleshooting desired. \nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nThis position requires a high level of physical flexibility, strength, and stamina, including the ability to: see and assess drawings, photos, and written instructions; audibly hear verbal instructions and mechanical signals (forklifts, cranes, machine alarms, etc.); and speak, read, write, and communicate effectively.\nTo successfully perform the essential functions of this job, an individual must be willing and able to\nhave full range of body movement: head, neck, shoulders; lift arms overhead; work overhead; reach, lift, push/pull, walk, climb, kneel, bend; good dexterity and range of movement in fingers, hands and wrists. \nsit for at least three hours. \nstand on feet for at least three hours.\nrepeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.\nmaintain confidence and balance while working on ladders up to 12 feet tall.\nAt Barry-Wehmiller we recognize that people come with a wealth of experience and talent beyond just the technical requirements of a job.
