This role develops machine layouts, assemblies, components, engineering documentation, drawings, and bills of materials that meet functional, safety, manufacturability, and customer requirements. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates with controls engineering, assembly, sourcing, service, and project management teams to support the successful execution of projects from design through startup. Success is measured by the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of engineering deliverables, as well as the ability of designs to support on-time, on-budget project execution while meeting performance, reliability, and manufacturability expectations.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, and components for automated packaging equipment.\nCreate and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of material, pneumatic schematics, technical specifications, assembly instructions, and other engineering documentation.\nTranslate approved machine concepts and customer requirements into detailed mechanical designs, layouts, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation.\nSelect and size servos, motors, gearboxes, actuators, bearings, pneumatic devices, and other purchased machine components to meet machine performance, reliability, safety, and cost objectives.\nSupport machine build, debug, validation, and commissioning during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).\nCollaborate with Electrical Controls Engineers to ensure compatibility between mechanical designs and control system requirements.\nActively participate in design reviews by presenting designs, providing technical feedback, and incorporating agreed-upon improvements.\nPrepare and release engineering documentation in accordance with established engineering processes, standards, and revision control requirements.\nSupport investigation and resolution of mechanical design, performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues identified during manufacturing, testing, installation, and field operation.\nParticipate in the evaluation and implementation of design improvements that enhance machine performance, quality, safety, reliability, and cost competitiveness.\nEnsure compliance with applicable machine safety standards and engineering design practices.\nSupport prototype development, testing, and verification activities to validate machine performance and customer requirements.\nCollaborate with suppliers and sourcing teams on component selection, design reviews, manufacturability, and cost optimization initiatives.\nProvide mechanical engineering support to manufacturing, assembly, field service, and customer support activities.\nMay lead, guide, coach, or mentor less experienced team members; be a positive role model for the team.\nDemonstrate flexibility and ability to work on other non-core product lines based on demand.\nFlexibility to take on evolving responsibilities in response to strategic priorities and business needs.\nMay travel to company-sponsored training, customer facilities, supplier locations, or other BW facilities, both domestic and international.\nQualifications & Desired Experience\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant mechanical design experience.\nRelevant mechanical design experience in industrial equipment, automation systems, packaging machinery, or related industries.\nStrong proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, or equivalent design platforms.\nKnowledge of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly practices, and design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).\nExperience selecting, sizing, and specifying mechanical components including pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes, motors, actuators, and power transmission equipment.\nUnderstanding of machine safety principles, risk assessment methodologies, and applicable industry standards.\nAbility to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.\nFamiliarity with engineering analysis methods including motion analysis, tolerance stack-up analysis, component sizing, and machine performance calculations.\nStrong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.\nExperience with industrial machinery fabrication, assembly, testing, startup, or commissioning activities preferred.\nCompensation\nThe approximate pay range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000. This range is a good-faith estimate at the time of posting.
