This internship provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on real aerospace and defense engineering programs and may provide a pathway to future employment opportunities with Bascom Hunter\nBascom Hunter provides custom solutions to the Department of Defense and aerospace markets, with capabilities spanning advanced electronics, communications, RF systems, environmental control, thermal management, power, and other mission-critical technologies.\nKey Responsibilities:\nAssist in the design, development, integration, and testing of embedded software and firmware for aerospace and defense systems.\nWrite, debug, test, and optimize embedded software using languages such as C and C++.\nDevelop software for microcontrollers, processors, and other embedded computing platforms.\nSupport hardware/software integration and troubleshoot issues at the component, subsystem, and system levels.\nAssist with the development of device drivers, communication interfaces, control logic, and other low-level software.\nInterface embedded software with sensors, actuators, electronic components, and other system hardware.\nSupport implementation and testing of communication protocols and interfaces.\nDevelop test software, scripts, and tools to support software verification and system-level testing.\nParticipate in software design reviews, code reviews, integration activities, and technical meetings.\nCollaborate with electrical, mechanical, systems, and software engineers to develop integrated solutions.\nAssist with laboratory testing, data collection, troubleshooting, and analysis of system performance.\nCreate and maintain technical documentation, including software requirements, design documentation, test procedures, and test reports.\nLearn and apply industry-standard embedded software development, configuration management, and verification processes.\nSupport software development intended to meet applicable aerospace and defense industry standards and customer requirements.\nMake engineering decisions driven by data, analysis and overall project/team goals.\nQualifications:\nPursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.\nExperience programming in C or C++.\nUnderstanding of fundamental embedded systems and software development concepts.\nBasic understanding of computer architecture, digital electronics, and hardware/software interfaces.\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.\nSelf-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.\nStrong organizational skills and attention to detail.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience developing software or firmware for microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs, or other embedded platforms.\nFamiliarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) or bare-metal embedded development.\nExperience with embedded communication interfaces and protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, or similar interfaces.\nFamiliarity with device drivers, bootloaders, or board support packages.\nExperience using debugging and laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or JTAG debuggers.\nExperience with Git or other version control and configuration management tools.\nFamiliarity with Linux or embedded Linux environments.\nExperience with Python or other scripting languages for testing and automation.\nUnderstanding of software verification, testing, and debugging methodologies.\nFamiliarity with aerospace or defense software development standards and requirements.\nPrevious internship, research, laboratory, project team, or other relevant technical experience.\nUnderstanding of storage class specifiers, compilers, and memory management in C/C++.\nOther relevant hands on engineering/software experience (personal projects, extra-curriculars, ect…).\nThis is a paid internship opportunity with both full-time and part-time schedules available. Summer interns typically work full-time, with opportunities for part-time work during the academic year based on business needs and intern availability.
