The role involves working closely with Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, Architects, and Operations Engineering/Managers on a broad scope of activities including middle-tier and backend engineering tasks. The position requires innovation, collaboration, and professional development within a mission-focused and solutions-oriented team. Work is primarily on-site in Bethesda, MD with a flexible schedule and occasional remote work depending on client requirements.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\n Design, develop, test, and maintain Python microservices.\nImplement message consumers and producers with Apache Kafka.\nIntegrate with Elasticsearch for real-time and batch data indexing and querying.\nWrite unit and integration tests to ensure high code coverage and reliability.\nBuild CI/CD pipelines and deploy services in Kubernetes clusters.\nParticipate in design discussions, code reviews, and architecture planning.\nMonitor and troubleshoot production issues using observability tools.\nContribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.\nUtilize software engineering and design methodologies appropriate to the development, integration, and production environment.\nFoster collaboration among team members to provide quality service and products to customers.\nRequired Qualifications\n Bachelor's Degree and 6-10 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 4-8 years of prior relevant experience.\nProficiency in Python and related backend frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Flask).\nExperience with containerization, especially with Docker.\nExperience in Extraction, Transformation, and Load (ETL).\nHands-on development experience in a Linux environment including bash or bash-like scripting.\nStrong understanding of RESTful APIs and microservice architecture.\nHands-on experience with Kubernetes: deploying, monitoring, and debugging services.\nUnderstanding of common design patterns, security practices, and logging/monitoring principles.\nFamiliarity with Git and collaborative workflows (PRs, reviews).\nExperience with DevOps practices and tools including Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools and practices, especially Gitlab or Jenkins.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills.\nExperience with AGILE practices.\nAbility to work well in a team and as a self-starter.\nPreferred Qualifications\n Experience with designing and implementing software development kits.\nFamiliarity with DGX (Deep GPU Xceleration).\nActive Security+ certification and ability to obtain Privileged User Account (PUA) certification by the Government.\nElasticsearch certifications or other program stack related certifications.\nExperience with production/enterprise systems at scale.\nKnowledge of distributed systems concepts (e.g., idempotency, eventual consistency).\nFamiliarity with schema registries and Kafka streaming patterns.\nExperience blending analytical methodologies and leveraging existing COTS/GOTS/OS tools in an unconventional manner.\nExperience with Amazon Web Services (AWS/C2S).\nFamiliarity or experience with building applications around Large Language Models, Agentic AI.\nRequired Education and Experience Equivalency\n Bachelor's Degree with 6-10 years of experience.\nMasters with 4-8 years of experience.\nRequired Certifications\n None specified.\nRequired Security Clearance\n Active Top Secret/SCI\nEqual Employment Opportunity\n Base-2 Solutions is an equal opportunity employer.
