The Systems Engineer leads design and development activities, guides users in formulating requirements, advises on alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies. This role provides technical leadership for integrating requirements, design, and technology, incorporates new plans and systems into ongoing operations, and develops technical and system architecture documentation. The Systems Engineer guides system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans. The position involves interaction with the Government regarding technical considerations and associated issues, with ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work and deliverables in the Systems Engineering area. Communication with program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives is required.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\n Analyze system requirements and lead design and development activities.\nGuide users in formulating requirements, advise alternative approaches, and conduct feasibility studies.\nProvide technical leadership for integration of requirements, design, and technology.\nIncorporate new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations.\nDevelop technical documentation and system architecture and design documentation.\nGuide system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans.\nInteract with the Government regarding Systems Engineering technical considerations and associated problems, issues, or conflicts.\nEnsure technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with Systems Engineering.\nCommunicate with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.\nContribute to development of systems engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.\nManage system requirements and derived requirements to ensure delivery of production systems compatible with defined system architectures such as DoDAF and SOA.\nAssist with development of system and functional requirements and allocation to hardware, software, facility, and personnel components.\nCoordinate resolution of action items from Configuration Control Board meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews requiring cross-discipline coordination.\nParticipate in Integrated Product Teams to design new capabilities based on development and operational considerations.\nParticipate in interface definition, design, and configuration changes throughout the system life cycle.\nAllocate real-time process budgets and error budgets to systems and subsystem components.\nDerive understanding of stakeholder needs and essential system functions from system requirements.\nDerive lower-level requirements from higher-level allocated requirements ensuring completeness, correctness, uniqueness, unambiguity, realizability, and verifiability.\nGenerate alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions.\nParticipate in establishing and gaining approval of system or component definitions providing common reference points for hardware and software developers.\nDefine methods, processes, and evaluation criteria for verification of systems, subsystems, and work products against requirements in written plans.\nDevelop system design solutions satisfying system requirements and functional analysis.\nDevelop derived requirements for Information Assurance Services and Security Mechanism Technology.\nReview and provide input to program and contract work breakdown structures, work packages, and integrated master plans.\nRequired Qualifications\n Strong grasp of Kubernetes networking, configuration, and deployment across secure environments.\nProven ability to support compliance-driven sustainment activities with attention to detail and accuracy.\nExcellent collaboration skills with both technical team members and mission stakeholders.\nSolid documentation and tracking skills using enterprise tools.\nAbility to adapt quickly to evolving security and mission needs.\nFourteen (14) years' experience as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.\nBachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.\nFive (5) years of additional Systems Engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.\nPreferred Qualifications\n Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Salt, and Ansible.\nFamiliarity with Rancher, Helm, and advanced Kubernetes features.\nWorking knowledge of observability tools like Elasticsearch, Kibana, and Grafana.\nSecurity+ (CWIP) or equivalent certification preferred.\nRequired Education and Experience Equivalency\n Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university with 14 years as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.\nNo bachelor's degree with 19 years as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity (14 years plus 5 additional years substituting for degree).\nRequired Certifications\n None specified.\nRequired Security Clearance\n Active Top Secret/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph\nEqual Employment Opportunity\n Base-2 Solutions is an equal opportunity employer.
