We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization-electricity-by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Power Systems Engineering Intern on Base’s Risk & Trading team, you’ll help model how our network of distributed residential batteries interacts with the grid, at both the distribution and transmission levels. During your internship you’ll be tasked with important problems for the business and expected to deliver just like any other full-time member of the team. You’ll work alongside Base’s power systems engineers on power flow studies, grid models, and the analysis behind where our batteries are deployed and how they’re dispatched.\nThis is hands-on engineering work with real stakeholders. The studies and tools you build will be used by Base’s operations and business development teams and can shape how we work with utilities and grid operators. You’ll own a scoped project end to end, from defining the study and building the model to presenting what you found.\nWhat You’ll Do\nHelp design and run power flow studies (e.g., steady-state and contingency analyses) for Base battery aggregation use cases.\n\nBuild and validate distribution and transmission system models, using standard test topologies such as the IEEE test feeders.\n\nWrite Python to automate studies so they can be solved programmatically and run on a recurring basis.\n\nAnalyze and visualize study results and grid data, and turn them into clear recommendations, such as where on a feeder Base’s systems create the most value.\n\nCompile and present your results to power systems engineers and the broader Risk & Trading team.\n\nWhat You'll Bring\nCurrently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical field.\n\nCoursework, research, or project experience in power systems: power flow, per-unit systems, and three-phase analysis.\n\nProficiency in Python for data analysis and visualization (e.g., pandas, NumPy, matplotlib).\n\nA strong foundation in linear algebra and numerical methods (e.g., Newton-Raphson).\n\nA strong ownership mindset and the ability to clearly explain your assumptions, methods, and results.\n\nNice to have: exposure to power flow tools such as OpenDSS, GridLAB-D, CYME, PSS/E, PowerWorld, PyPSA, or pandapower, or to optimal power flow and electricity markets (e.g., ERCOT).\n\nAbout the Team\nBase’s Risk & Trading team is tasked with ensuring the grid-support performance and profitability of Base’s distributed battery fleet. This encompasses device communications with balancing authorities, telemetry analysis, algorithms for fleet aggregation and economic dispatch, through to financial portfolio management in wholesale energy markets. Our power systems engineers are the team’s experts on how the fleet interacts with the grid, from distribution feeders to the bulk transmission system. Our team is made up of physicists, economists, computer scientists, and engineers; the best candidates will bring the day-over-day intensity of an operator with the foresight to drive the long term development of simpler, more performant automated control. Success looks like building the airplane as it falls out of the sky.\nPlease note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.\nOur Values\nFirst Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.\n\nOperate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.\n\nGive & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.\n\nEveryone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.\n\nStrong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.\n\nCommitted to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.\n\nFun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.\n\nDo the best work of your life at Base.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4414,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Electrical & Electronic Engineering","Industrial Engineering","Energy Storage","Smart Grid"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-29T15:49:26Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"H-1B filings in 12 months: 12","filings_12m":12,"filings_prev_12m":4,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":137500,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-29T16:27:21+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":83,"reasons":["conf:1","velocity","win:early","comp:junior,brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-30T05:48:23Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/base-power-power-systems-engineering-intern","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/base-power-power-systems-engineering-intern.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-30T14:50:56Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2394,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-31T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":5219},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=5219"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fbase-power-power-systems-engineering-intern"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fbase-power-power-systems-engineering-intern"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fbase-power-power-systems-engineering-intern"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/base-power-power-systems-engineering-intern\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fbase-power-power-systems-engineering-intern"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3467653}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"basepower.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3467653},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
