This role spans digital test infrastructure, data collection and analysis systems, visualization tools, networked environments, software/hardware integration, and mission-support applications.\nThe ideal candidate has strong software engineering fundamentals, enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams, and can contribute throughout the software development lifecycle. This position is well suited for someone who builds practical, high-impact solutions that support integration, testing, analysis, and operational decision-making.\nThis role requires domestic and international travel, including occasional multi-day or weeklong trips, to support customer meetings, site visits, technical reviews, capability assessments, and key program activities. Travel may be more frequent during startup phases or critical delivery periods.\nWhat Will Help You Succeed\nStrong software engineering fundamentals and structured problem-solving skills.\nComfort working in fast-paced technical environments with evolving requirements.\nAttention to detail in implementation, testing, documentation, and customer communication.\nA collaborative, proactive approach to integration, troubleshooting, and mission support.\nResponsibilities\nSoftware Design and Development\nDesign, develop, test, and maintain software applications, tools, and services for complex technical and operational environments.\nBuild software for data collection, management, visualization, analytics, interface integration, and mission-support workflows.\nDevelop software components, APIs, scripts, and utilities that support system interoperability and integration objectives.\nParticipate in requirements review, design, implementation, integration, testing, and sustainment activities.\nTechnical Integration and Engineering Support\nCollaborate with systems, hardware, test, data, and operations teams to integrate software into larger technical environments.\nSupport technical specifications, interface definitions, and implementation plans for assigned software components.\nEvaluate software performance, compatibility, latency, data flow, and operational suitability in integrated environments.\nSupport distributed systems, digital test environments, networked platforms, and data exchanges across multiple systems.\nHelp ensure software solutions meet cybersecurity, safety, compliance, and mission requirements.\nAnalysis, Testing, and Documentation\nSupport engineering analysis and test activities that validate software functionality and system performance.\nCompile, evaluate, and interpret design, integration, and test data to identify issues and inform technical decisions.\nPrepare software documentation, technical reports, implementation summaries, and customer-facing briefings.\nTroubleshoot, debug, perform root cause analysis, and support corrective actions for software-related issues.\nTechnical Project and Customer Support\nLead or support small technical projects or phases of larger efforts within schedule and budget expectations.\nBuild productive relationships with internal and external customers and communicate technical progress, schedules, risks, and deliverable quality.\nAssist with proposal efforts, technical sections, internal research and development, and business development activities as needed.\nMentor and train junior staff when appropriate.\nKey Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field with 5+ years of related experience; or master’s degree with 2+ years of related experience; or PhD; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.\nDepending on contract or business need, the role may require up to 7 years of related experience and/or specialized skill sets.\nExperience developing software for complex technical systems, platforms, or applications.\nProficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, C, C++, C#, Java, or similar.\nExperience with debugging, integration, testing, version control tools such as Git, and technical problem solving.\nExperience developing or supporting software in Linux and/or Windows environments.\nExperience producing technical documentation, including software design documentation, implementation notes, technical reports, or customer briefings.\nAbility to work effectively with software, hardware, systems, test, and operations teams.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to travel domestically and internationally as required for meetings, site assessments, technical reviews, and key program activities.\nActive security clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain one, as required by the program.\nAbility to satisfy contract-specific security, access, compliance, and export-related requirements.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience supporting defense, national security, test and evaluation, experimentation, or operational integration efforts.\nExperience with software/hardware integration in networked, sensor-based, or distributed environments.\nExperience developing data processing, visualization, dashboarding, analytics, APIs, data pipelines, data storage systems, or service-based architectures.\nFamiliarity with requirements traceability, interface verification, configuration management, cybersecurity principles, and systems engineering practices.\nExperience with scripting, automation, simulation, test support tools, customer-facing presentations, or proposal content.\nCompensation Data\nBattelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base compensation range for this role is $105,000 - $150,000, in addition to eligibility for an annual short term incentive compensation target and comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
