As a Software Engineer, you will work with a diverse group of people from many quantitative disciplines such as physics, computer science, electrical engineering, statistics, systems biology, and mathematics. We work with a variety of data such as microelectronic images and schematics, signal data, text corpuses, ontologies, and networks.\nAs a Software Engineer, you will spend your day designing, coding, and testing software. Our projects are non-standard, highly customized, and will push you to new levels as a software developer. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the software development life cycle with a focus on innovation and supporting cutting-edge R&D efforts. However, the most important skills are an enthusiasm for learning, leading research ventures, and data-driven problem solving.\nThis position will be based out of Battelle offices in Columbus, OH.\nResponsibilities\nYou will work with project team members to understand project requirements and scope, design/develop/modify software and firmware for custom data processing tools. You will work with internal and external customers to understand and set goals and expectations and translate and communicate those goals and expectations to the team. \nYou will research and analyze new libraries, technologies and tools and perform full software life cycle functions including software/firmware requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, and documentation.\nYou will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts from various scientific fields to develop custom software solutions.\nYou will support custom software maintenance and development.\nKey Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field of study and 2 + years of experience, or a master’s degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field. \nExperienced working in both Windows and Linux (RHEL & Ubuntu) environments.\nA self-starter that can effectively drive the development of software projects from initial concept through implementation.\nEffective and consistent communication with customers and teammates at all stages of software development.\nProficiency in Python, C, C++, or C# (or similar general-purpose languages).\nAbility to maintain software using Git (or other similar version control systems).\nBe able to instantiate Virtual Machines/Environments for active development.\nExperience creating and deploying containerized software using container engines like Podman, Docker, or Singularity.\nStrong understanding of common data structures, algorithms, and their applications.\nExperience automating tasks using Python, Bash, PowerShell and Batch Scripts.\nPassion and drive to continuously improve your skill set.\nExceptional technical writing and team skills and experience or a willingness to support proposals, and progress reports.\nProcess management implementation utilizing configuration control and configuration management. \nMust be a US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience adding functionality and resolving issues in existing codebases.\nExperience developing and debugging embedded applications.\nExperience with formal software development processes.\nLaboratory automation.\nData pipelining.\nAbility to self-lead and self-teach.\nAn active Secret security clearance.\nCompensation Data\nBattelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $86,400 - $123,100, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
