If you’d like to be part of a team that offers flexibility and support to deliver results, open and timely communication and a climate that fosters motivation and clarity, you’ve come to the right place\nMechanical Engineering Co-Op\nAs a Mechanical Engineering Co-op, you work alongside experienced engineers and plant personnel to improve chemical processes and mechanical equipment performance in a dynamic plant environment; you gain hands-on experience with process optimization, automatic process control systems, and operational excellence initiatives while helping deliver safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations.\nYOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nThe primary responsibilities of this role are to:\nHelp improve chemical processes by working on yield and capacity improvements, waste reduction, cycle time reduction, cost improvements, and modification or design of equipment;\nTroubleshoot mechanical equipment and provide recommendations to improve reliability and reduce costs associated with process-area mechanical equipment;\nSupport the design, installation, and start-up of automatic process control, material handling, and distributed control systems;\nAssist engineers in developing project objectives and scope by analyzing customer requirements and producing sketches, drawings, written descriptions, or specifications for customer approval;\nEnsure compliance with engineering standards and procedures, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, plant safety standards, pressure safety design, and environmental standards on all projects;\nWork with other engineers to gain insight into maintenance and reliability improvement programs in chemical plants and apply these learnings to assigned projects;\nPerform and check engineering calculations following standard methods and principles for projects;\nAssist with procurement activities, including equipment specifications, bid evaluation, and contract administration;\nSupport engineering cost, feasibility, and planning studies by analyzing customer needs and data, researching options, coordinating with other engineers, and providing recommendations;\nCollaborate with production and technical staff on day-to-day activities such as process troubleshooting and problem solving with operations and compliance organizations to drive attainment of project goals;\nAid implementation of the Operational Excellence program and support process improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives site-wide.\nWHO YOU ARE\nBayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:\nRequired Qualifications:\nEnrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering;\nSuccessfully completed sophomore year or higher;\nWillingness to work in a chemical plant environment and ability to work 40 hours per week;\nPhysically willing and able to climb stairs and ladders and to move safely within an operating plant;\nAbility to drive to and from the work location;\nAvailable for a 6-month Co-op assignment for Spring 2027 (January to June) or Fall 2027 (May/June to December), with accommodations for schools on the quarter system as needed.\nAbility to work effectively in a team environment, communicate clearly, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nMinimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale preferred;\nProficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);\nEmployees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $24.00 to $43.25.
