POSITION PURPOSE:

• A software engineer delivers software components that form part of a product.
• Individuals in this role will:Develop software to meet user needsFollow best practice guidelines and help to improvethose guidelinesWrite clean, secure, and well-tested codeCoach and mentor more junior colleaguesOperate the services they build and identify issues in production

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Programming and BuildCollaborate with others when necessary to review user stories and code and develop implementation approaches
• Use the agreed implementation approaches to design, code, test, and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using the right standards and toolsSystems DesignTranslate logical designs into physical designsProduce detailed designs
• Effectively document all work using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate
• Design systems characterized by managed levels of risk, manageable business and technical complexity, and meaningful impact
• Work with well understood technology and identify appropriate patternsSystems IntegrationBuild and test simple interfaces between systems
• Work on more complex integration as part of a wider team
• Develop instrument interfaces using LabVantage SDMSModern Standards ApproachCompetently apply a modern standards approach and guide others to do soInformation SecurityMaintain a strong understanding of information securityDesign solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered with mitigation of security threats as a core feature.

WHO YOU ARE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field
• 3+ years experience as a software engineer
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript or others
• 3+ years experience developing in LabVantage LIMS and instrument interfacing with LabVantage LIMS SDMS
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)
• Proficiency in software design and architecture
• Experience with version control systems like Git
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
• Familiarity with integrated development environments (IDEs) like Visual Studio, IntelliJ Idea or Eclipse
• Knowledge of software development tools and practices, including continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD)
• Understanding of database management and SQL
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful API design
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred

• Experience with containerization and orchestrations tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Expertise in a specific area such as machine learning, cybersecurity, or mobile development
• Understanding of DevOps practices and tools
• Ability to lead and mentor junior developers
