As experts in both technical and domain areas, they work with the Senior Staff Software Engineers, Senior Software Engineers, Product Designers, Product Managers, and Leadership to set relevant long-term technical goals and drive innovative solutions that will continue to build on Bayer Crops Science’s market advantage. They also drive a focus on education and help develop team skillsets to match technical strategy.\nThe Staff Software Engineer:\nDesigns, develops, tests, and maintains software applications that meet user needs and business requirements;\nWrites clean, efficient code and collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements;\nApplies best practices in software development, including version control and agile methodologies, to ensure high-quality deliverables;\nParticipates in code reviews and contribute to documentation, fostering a collaborative environment that supports continuous improvement and innovation in software solutions; \nActs as leader within their squads and their unit, influencing and aligning multiple team members and teams towards accomplishing shared business outcomes.\nThis role will be based in Creve Coeur, MO. Candidates must be domiciled within the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area as remote working arrangements will not be accomodated for this role.\nYOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nWork as part of an agile development team to build and support applications;\nWork with team and product manager to manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables;\nInteract directly with business customers to gather and understand requirements and how they translate in application features;\nDevelop applications and services using the right tool for the job;\nActively leverage AI coding assistants and generative AI tools within daily workflows to drive efficiency across development, debugging, and documentation;\nConsistently contribute to solving organization-wide problems including shared platforms, libraries, and frameworks;\nConduct functional and non-functional testing;\nTroubleshoot and debug applications;\nDeploy applications across all environments in collaboration with development team, product management, and delivery;\nChampion code quality including unit and integration testing;\nEvaluate existing applications to refactor, update and add new features;\nDevelop any technical documentation needed to accurately represent application design and code;\nIdentify and pursue opportunities to improve own knowledge and skills and those of more junior engineers;\nIdentify opportunities to develop new and better solutions;\nAnticipate and address technical and organizational obstacles affecting own team and teams within the domain platform;\nProvide guidance for technical design and architecture decisions within and across teams;\nParticipate in the evaluation and selection of new technologies;\nMentor other people and teams on technologies, techniques or standards across the organization;\nBuild relationships with key members of partner teams;\nMay report to senior people leader;\nWorks daily with a team of Software Engineers;\nCollaborates with Product Management to manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables;\nInteract regularly with Business Users throughout the project lifecycle;\nEngage with teams who are outside the organization throughout the development process, as needed;\nInteracts with engineers across the team, related teams, and domain platform;\nMay lead department teams and be active in inter-department teams;\nGets along well in an expanded team;\nActively solicits feedback from project members and looks for the right solution to problems;\nAble to mentor other more junior staff and leverage their time for the larger whole (delegation);\nIs comfortable with a change in direction;\nKnows the difference between a technical and non-technical issue and knows when additional stakeholders need to be involved;\nAble to clearly communicate the progress of a small team;\nIs a strong communicator and can represent technical material at an appropriate level for the audience;\nHas begun to build company-wide relationships.\nWHO YOU ARE:\nBayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:\nRequired Qualifications:\nMinimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience;\nMinimum of 8 years of experience (Master’s Degree 6 years or Doctorate 4 years) in solving challenging technical problems in two or more of the following areas:Single page web application development(e.g., with ReactJS);\nCloud-based continuous delivery and environment management(e.g., with AWS);\nMicro-service design and development;\nLarge, distributed system development(e.g., with NodeJS, Go/Golang);\nSoftware security;\nProcessing and analyzing large data sets;\n\nMinimum of 3 years of experience designing cloud-based software solutions;\nPractical experience and understanding of industry practices, engineering principles, concepts, and standards;\nProven experience integrating AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Gemini, ChatGPT) into daily SDLC practices to accelerate development and elevate code quality;\nExpertise in at least one technology or facet of product development (research, design, programming, testing);\nDemonstrates capable business insight, strategic mindset, cultivates innovation, drives vision & purpose, and attracts & develops talent leadership competencies and decision-making skills;\nDemonstrates a strong ability to manage ambiguity, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills.\nPreferred Qualifications:\n3+ years of experience with regulatory compliance in the Crop Science domain, including IT product development for regulatory functions, experience within a Regulatory Affairs/Regulatory Science organization, or tenure at a relevant governmental regulatory agency (e.g., USDA, EPA, CFIA)\nThis posting will be available for application until at least 11/3/2026.\nEmployees can expect to be paid a salary between $122,160 - $183,240. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
