A significant focus of this role will be steering our company’s artificial intelligence (AI) strategy advising on the development, integration, and procurement of AI technologies, ensuring compliance with emerging global frameworks, and mitigating risks associated with generative AI and machine learning.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Product & AI Counse\nWhat You'll Be Doing:\nProvide forward-looking legal advice on all technology-related matters, including software development, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (GenAI/LLMs), and machine learning initiatives.\nEmbed with product and engineering teams to review new features and products from ideation to launch, ensuring privacy-by-design and AI-safety-by-design principles are met.\nLead the development, implementation, and continuous updating of company policies related to acceptable AI use, AI governance, data privacy, open-source licensing, and intellectual property.\nMonitor and interpret emerging technology laws and regulations globally, with a specific focus on AI regulations (e.g., the EU AI Act, state-level algorithmic bias laws), data privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA), and cybersecurity mandates.\nIdentify potential legal and ethical risks related to technology projects particularly those involving automated decision-making or AI-generated content and develop actionable strategies to mitigate them.\nDraft, review, and negotiate high-stakes technology agreements, including SaaS, PaaS, strategic partnerships, and complex technology vendor contracts.\nScrutinize agreements with AI model providers and platforms, focusing on critical issues such as data usage rights (model training), IP indemnification, output ownership, and confidentiality.\nAdvise on the protection and enforcement of the company’s intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights specifically addressing novel IP challenges related to AI-generated content and open-source software.\nPartner closely with IT, Security, Privacy, and Compliance teams to ensure data workflows, especially those feeding into data lakes or AI models, comply with strict privacy and security standards.\nAct as a trusted advisor to senior leadership across IT, Security, Product Development, Engineering, Sales, and Business Development.\nDevelop and deliver training to employees on relevant legal topics, including responsible AI usage, technology contract fundamentals, IP protection, and data privacy best practices\nWhat You'll Bring:\nJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one state bar.\n10+ years of relevant legal experience (in-house tech experience strongly preferred) with a deep focus on product counseling, regulatory compliance, and technology transactions.\nDemonstrated experience advising on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data privacy.
