Overview

Are you experienced in preparing documents and correspondence to kickstart legal proceedings for enforcing payment? We're looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Legal and Insolvency Clerk to join our Collections team. In this role, you'll be the go-to person for answering questions about departmental policies and procedures related to legal account collections.

You'll also handle bankruptcy and insolvency documents while coordinating with employers and trustees. If you're a highly organized individual who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

How you'll make a difference: You'll help ensure B.C.'s workers' compensation system is properly funded so we can serve workers and employers now and in the future

Where you'll work

We serve the workers and employers across B.C., and we do that best when we're together. It's how we collaborate, learn from one another, and develop our people.

This role is based in our Richmond office five days a week.

Like everything we do, our work model continues to evolve to support those we serve. We remain committed to a work model that strengthens our culture and helps us deliver our best work, while balancing flexibility and a positive employee experience.

What you'll do

  • Receive collection files with instructions to prepare documents to commence legal proceedings to enforce payment of accounts
  • Determine the proper court registry or land title office and prepare documentation such as writs of seizure and sale, land judgments, and garnishing orders
  • Ensure that all legal documents are properly signed, sealed, and recorded, and prepare the legal documents for mailing
  • Receive and record payments received on accounts for which legal action was undertaken and forward payments to accounting
  • Process bankruptcy and insolvency documents, as well as collect overpayments

Is this a good fit for you?

We're looking for people who can:

  • Coordinate, prioritize, and monitor tasks in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Communicate effectively to develop and maintain positive working relationships with many different types of people
  • Gather and understand information from a variety of sources and accurately relay it to customers and team members
  • Meet customer needs in a professional manner, sometimes in a stressful, deadline oriented environment

Your background and experience

  • A minimum of grade 12 education; some post-secondary education is preferred
  • A minimum of one years' experience in an office clerical or business environment
  • Previous experience in a collections or legal field is considered an asset
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to perform business math calculations

We'll consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Important to know

Before we can finalize any offer of employment, you must:

  • Consent to a criminal record check
  • Confirm you're legally entitled to work in Canada
