It is responsible for the majority of communication with the public, and works with the rest of the staff to ensure smooth functioning of the shelter as a whole.\n\nThis role is a key customer service position and creates the atmosphere of the shelter by demonstrating the Guiding Principles of the BC SPCA and engaging in a courteous, friendly way to clients, volunteers, staff and donors to ensure the highest possible reputation for the shelter and the maintenance of the goodwill of the BC SPCA in Victoria.\n\nSome specific duties:\nGreet and interact with all volunteers and public in a welcoming and open manner\nDirect public and volunteers through to appropriate areas of the shelter\nAccept donations and provide information on acceptable and needed items\nAnswers all telephone inquiries and direct callers to appropriate resources\nSchedule surrender/compassionate board intakes when requested and appropriate\nEnter all incoming animals into Shelter Buddy\nReceive animals at the counter in an thoughtful, warm and understanding manner\nProcess animal adoptions/returns through Shelter Buddy\nSchedule vet appointments, as necessary\nAssist in shelter, with animal care or with vet and supply runs, as required\nUpload documents and support maintenance of animal files in hardcopy and Shelter Buddy\nTake adoption and donation photos and forward for social media use\nProcess all financial donations, ensuring that the individual receives an accurate receipt\nEnsure that the reception area is kept neat and tidy at all times\nCash handling including preparation of daily cash for deposit and daily batch out\nPerform other duties as assigned by the branch manager.\n\nQualifications you need to have:\nHigh school diploma or equivalent\nMinimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a receptionist role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer\nSound knowledge/ability to learn routine office practice and procedures\nKnowledge of domestic animals, their breeds, characteristics and common diseases an asset\nAbility to assist public in a positive manner\nExcellent customer service skills;
