Become a maker of possible with us.\nAbout the Role\nThe BD Software Technology Solutions (STS) organization is seeking a Director of Platform Engineering & Cloud Operations to lead the platforms and teams that enable secure, reliable, and scalable software delivery across BD's growing portfolio of cloud-connected products and digital solutions.\nThis is a technical leadership role for someone who views infrastructure, automation, and developer experience as strategic products. You will lead Platform Engineering, DevOps, Cloud Operations, SRE, and DevSecOps teams while driving cloud-native architectures, AI-augmented software delivery, and automation-first engineering practices that accelerate the delivery of high-quality, compliant software.\nThe ideal candidate is equally comfortable defining platform strategy with senior leaders and engaging deeply with engineering teams on CI/CD, cloud architecture, deployment strategies, observability, reliability, and software delivery performance. You will partner closely with Product Management, Architecture, Security, Test Engineering, and Software Engineering leaders to drive innovation while maintaining the standards required in a regulated healthcare environment.\nSuccess in this role requires balancing speed, reliability, security, cost, and compliance while fostering a culture of operational excellence, automation, continuous improvement, and engineering craftsmanship. The right candidate combines deep technical expertise, strong business acumen, and proven leadership with the vision to transform software delivery through platform engineering, DevOps, and AI-enabled developer productivity.\nResponsibilities\nLeadership & Strategy\nDefine and execute the DevOps, Platform Engineering, and Cloud Operations strategy aligned with business and engineering objectives.\nBuild and lead high-performing teams while establishing engineering standards, governance, and operational metrics.\nDrive organizational transformation through automation, self-service platforms, and engineering excellence.\nPlatform Engineering\nDevelop and evolve developer platforms that improve productivity, consistency, and software delivery outcomes.\nEstablish standardized CI/CD, GitOps, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices across engineering teams.\nEnable self-service infrastructure and automation capabilities that accelerate development and deployment.\nCloud & Infrastructure\nLead cloud strategy and operational excellence across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP environments.\nEnsure scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure architectures.\nOversee container platforms, environment management, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities.\nReliability & Operations\nDrive SRE practices focused on reliability, observability, incident management, and operational readiness.\nEstablish and manage SLAs, SLOs, and service performance objectives.\nLead proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and continuous service improvement initiatives.\nSecurity & Compliance\nEmbed DevSecOps principles throughout the software delivery lifecycle.\nPartner with Security and Quality teams to automate compliance, vulnerability management, and governance controls.\nEnsure cloud platforms and delivery pipelines align with regulatory, security, and corporate requirements.\nContinuous Improvement\nLeverage automation, AI-enabled software delivery, and emerging technologies to improve productivity and operational efficiency.\nFoster a culture of innovation, learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.\nRequired Experience\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.\n12+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or platform engineering roles.\n5+ years of experience leading managers and geographically distributed engineering teams in a large-scale enterprise environment.\nProven experience building and operating cloud-native platforms on AWS, Azure, and/or GCP, including containerized and Kubernetes-based workloads.\nDemonstrated success implementing and scaling CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, DevSecOps, observability, and reliability engineering practices across multiple product teams.\nExperience operating and supporting mission-critical SaaS platforms with high availability, security, scalability, and compliance requirements.\nStrong track record of driving engineering transformation initiatives, including platform engineering, automation, developer experience, and AI-augmented software delivery.\nExperience partnering with Product, Architecture, Security, Quality, and business stakeholders to deliver technology solutions in complex, regulated environments.\nHealthcare, medical device, life sciences, or other regulated industry experience preferred.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience leading Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, Cloud Operations organizations.\nHands-on experience with modern DevOps toolchains, Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks, and cloud-native technologies.\nExperience establishing and improving metrics, SLOs/SLAs, operational KPIs, and engineering performance measures.\nRelevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), Terraform, or similar cloud and infrastructure credentials.\nWorkplace Expectations\nThis role is on-site 5 days per week.
