This role develops and implements policies and procedures that support employee health, safety, and corporate objectives, while overseeing wellness programs.\nThe position serves as the site’s EHS leader and subject matter expert in environmental compliance, safety regulations, and EHS best practices, with a strong focus on environmental permitting and process safety management within a manufacturing environment.\nThe EHS Manager collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and drives cross-functional efforts to strengthen EHS performance, cultivate a culture of safety, and ensure continuous improvement aligned with BD organizational goals.\nThis role reports to the Operations site leader with dotted line reporting to an EHS BU or central function lead.\nJob Responsibilities: (Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)\nResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:\nProvide effective leadership for associate health and wellness across UCC headquarters, two sterilization sites, and an off-site kitting operation. Coordinate day-to-day implementation of industrial safety, health, and environmental programs.\nUtilizes systems to track and report EHS performance metrics/scorecard to business unit operations leaders; Engages site operations leaders on EHS matters to ensure a strong culture of associate safety and environmental management.\nConducts technical reviews and determines impacts for process changes, capital projects, new product development, and equipment modifications for facilities and operations.\nAs needed, fulfills the role of inside project manager, ensuring project goals are met within time frame and budget allotted and oversees construction project activity and contractor safety. \nConducts/leads process safety hazard analysis/hazard and operability studies (PHA/HAZOP) for applicable processes and any future process changes. Responsible to ensure compliance with all OSHA PSM regulations for BD facility programs. Additionally conducts hazard reviews for all process controls, projects, and any process changes for UCC Covington/Madison and as required for other BD divisions. \nTracks and authors all required governmental compliance reports to complete and submit timely as required by the respective agency or BD permit documentation. \nLeads a proactive individual behavioral based safety program, identifies and establishes leading indicator safety goals for Division facilities and develops programs to promote a strong safety culture in alignment with BD Global EHS Safety Compliance, Management & Performance Improvement activities.\nResponsible for overall site security for the Covington and Madison campuses to include C-TPAT compliance, site security guards (contract or employees), and life safety system compliance.\nActs as liaison with local emergency response including police, fire, or other emergency services.\nDetermine EHS site goals and necessary programs with site area leaders and managers. Effectively influences them to be strong EHS Leaders within their areas of responsibility.\nResponsible for review of EHS policies, programs, and metrics to meet the goals and objectives of the business and fully integrating this into the plant management system.\nMust have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Capable of communicating, articulating risks, issues, ideas, plans, and proposals to all levels of the organization as well as influencing others without direct authority.\nKeeps abreast of the federal state, local laws (OSHA, DOT, EPA, ADA, etc) as well as company policies to ensure the site is in compliance with the regulations. Initiates changes to practices and procedures to support compliance and ensure the necessary permits and licenses to operate are in place.\nEnsure effective occupational safety and health programs are maintained with external support from health care providers, insurers, community health, and regulatory agencies. \nEnsure employment-related medical screenings and procedures are effective and compliant. \nHandle Personally identifiable Health Information (PHI) in communicating with medical providers. \nEnsure compliance with local, state and federal regulations regarding environmental discharges from the facility.\nEnsure compliance with waste shipment regulations and drive site sustainability initiatives.\nTrain associates as necessary.\nProvide oversight and direction for day-to-day compliance with applicable air, hazardous waste, wastewater, and storm water permits, plans, regulations, etc.\n Ability to interpret environmental laws and permit requirements, stay abreast of the changing regulatory landscape, and analyze the various options for complying with new regulations and permit requirements.\nProvide effective leadership and overall management of site EH&S associates.\nConduct jobsite assessments, focusing on unsafe conditions and unsafe work behaviors; ensure appropriate action is taken to correct deficiencies.\nLead Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), EPA, NDEQ, etc. inspections and investigations.\nMonitor and maintain records and permits of hazardous, biohazardous materials, and waste in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.\nLead Emergency Response Team in case of Safety, Health, and Environmental hazard\nOversee site Emergency Response and Business Continuity Plans.\nOther duties as required to support the needs of the business.\nEducation and Experience:\nEducation:\nBachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (strongly preferred), or Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field.\nFunctional Safety Certifications, Certified Safety Specialist, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Six Sigma Green, or Black Belt, preferred.\nExperience:\nA minimum of 3 years of relevant experience leading EHS in a manufacturing operation \nA minimum of 7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. \nExperience in Medical Device, Chemical, or Pharmaceutical manufacturing is preferred. \nExperience with OSHA PSM is preferred. \nExperience managing a team in a cross-functional environment is preferred. \nKnowledge and experience in ISO14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 compliance preferred. Auditor certifications a plus.\nKnowledge and Skills:\nBasic or simple knowledge:\nStatistical skills. \nCommunication skills. \nProficient/working:\nMicrosoft office \nProblem solving and continuous improvement skills \nExperience in managing/handling environmental compliance including reporting and record keeping, environmental permitting for all media, manufacturing operations, regulatory reviews \nComputer skills \nOrganizational skills \nPresentation skills \nAdvanced or specialized:\nInterpersonal and customer service skills.\nAbility to work with limited supervision. \nProject management skills \nAble to administer and interpret OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. \nAble to perform compliance assessments and action plans. \nHandling conflict/mediation skills. \nLeadership skills. \nAnalytical skills. \nProblem solving skills. \nWork Environment: (if applicable)\nMay spend time in hot and humid locations, near moving mechanical parts, near forklift traffic, high places, toxic and caustic chemicals, construction environments, lab environments. Personal Protective Equipment must be worn per BD policies and procedures.\nLocal travel required between Covington and Madison Georgia sites.
