Senior Database Engineer – SQL Performance / Data Platforms / ETL/ELT / Cloud Modernization

The Senior Database Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, modernizing, and supporting enterprise database and data platform environments. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in database performance engineering, SQL optimization, ETL/ELT, data warehousing, cloud data platforms, database migration, and automation.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and/or Oracle, with particular strength in query performance tuning, index optimization, database troubleshooting, data migration, and automation. Experience with Microsoft Azure and enterprise data platform modernization is highly desirable.

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and enterprise data integration solutions.
• Analyze and troubleshoot complex database and SQL performance issues.
• Perform SQL query tuning, execution-plan analysis, index analysis, and index optimization.
• Identify inefficient queries, missing or redundant indexes, blocking, deadlocks, and resource bottlenecks.
• Design and implement database performance monitoring and optimization frameworks.
• Support database modernization and migration initiatives across PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and cloud data platforms.
• Support Oracle-to-PostgreSQL, on-premises-to-cloud, and legacy platform modernization initiatives.
• Design and optimize data warehouses, data marts, lakehouses, and enterprise data platforms.
• Establish and maintain automated database maintenance and operational processes.
• Implement automation using Azure services, PowerShell, SQL Server Agent, Python, scripting, and related technologies.
• Ensure high standards of data quality, security, governance, compliance, availability, and operational resilience.
• Develop data validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and exception-management frameworks.
• Work with business and technology stakeholders to translate functional and reporting requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Support financial, regulatory, risk, treasury, operational, and management reporting requirements where applicable.
• Perform database capacity planning, performance monitoring, and continuous optimization.
• Contribute to technical project delivery, risk identification, dependency management, and stakeholder communication.
• Promote engineering standards, coding practices, documentation, automation, and deployment best practices.
• Conduct technical reviews and recommend improvements across database and data engineering environments.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and mid-level engineers where required.

• 7+ years of experience in Database Engineering, Database Administration, Data Engineering, ETL Development, or Data Platform Engineering.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and/or Oracle.
• Advanced SQL / T-SQL development and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong experience in SQL query optimization, query performance debugging, execution-plan analysis, index design and optimization, and database performance tuning.
• Experience analyzing blocking, deadlocks, statistics, query-plan management, CPU, memory, I/O, and wait statistics.
• Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT development and enterprise data integration.
• Experience with data warehousing and data modeling.
• Experience delivering complex database and data migration projects.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of Azure SQL, Azure automation, monitoring, and related cloud services.
• Experience implementing automated database maintenance processes.
• Understanding of data governance, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality frameworks.
• Experience working with large-scale and business-critical production databases.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong stakeholder communication and requirements-management skills.
• Ability to work independently on complex technical issues and provide senior-level technical recommendations.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field is desirable.
• Relevant certifications in Microsoft Azure, Data Engineering, Database Administration, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or cloud technologies are an advantage.

• Performance Engineering: SQL query optimization, execution-plan analysis, index tuning, blocking and deadlock analysis, statistics management, resource and wait-statistics analysis.
• Automation and Monitoring: SQL Server Agent, Azure Automation, Runbooks, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, PowerShell, Python, and scripting.
• Database Operations: Database maintenance, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and production support.
• DevOps and Delivery: CI/CD, DevOps practices, deployment automation, documentation, and engineering standards.
• Data Governance and Quality: Metadata management, data lineage, data validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and data quality frameworks.

• Strong database engineering, SQL performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent understanding of relational database architecture, data modeling, and enterprise data platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly when investigating complex performance issues.
• Ability to design scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable database and data integration solutions.
• Strong knowledge of database performance monitoring, optimization, and automated maintenance.
• Ability to assess technical risks, identify dependencies, and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Strong understanding of data quality, security, governance, compliance, availability, and operational resilience.
• Ability to translate business, financial, regulatory, and reporting requirements into practical technical solutions.

• Experience delivering enterprise data platform, data warehouse, or lakehouse solutions.
• Experience in Banking, Financial Services, Treasury, Risk, Regulatory Reporting, or Management Reporting.
• Experience with Oracle-to-PostgreSQL, SQL Server modernization, or similar database migration initiatives.
• Experience contributing to enterprise-scale data modernization programs.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure data services, cloud automation, monitoring, and operational management.
• Relevant certifications in Microsoft Azure, Data Engineering, Database Administration, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or cloud technologies.
