We are the builders. We are the Wayfinders.\nBedrock is mapping the unseen world beneath our oceans and building the systems to do it at scale.\nWe're hiring a Hydrographer/Geophysicist to work with some of the highest-resolution seafloor data on the planet. You'll process and analyze multibeam, sidescan, magnetometer, and sub-bottom data from Bedrock field tests and commercial operations, and you'll own rapid, iterative feedback on data quality. When something looks strange in a dataset, you'll be the person asking what it tells us about the vehicle, the survey plan, or the seafloor itself.\nYou will also be in front of customers discussing data quality, interpretation, and deliverables, and teaching them how to read what they're seeing and what it's worth. This is a role for someone who relishes that part of the job.\nAnd you'll be on the leading edge of the field. Bedrock is working with major governments around the world on how uncertainty and accuracy should be defined in ocean data- literally helping write the book, the policy, and the guidelines. This is the team revolutionizing how the seafloor gets characterized, and you'd have a say in what the next decade of this field looks like.\nWe are hiring for curiosity, speed of learning, and real excitement about seeing the seafloor in higher fidelity than anyone has seen it before. If you have most of what's below and you're hungry to learn the rest, we want to talk to you.\nWhat You'll Do\nData Processing & Quality\nFirst-pass analysis of MBES, SSS, magnetometer, and/or sub-bottom profiler data using commercial software (Qimera, Seaview, SonarWiz, Radex, etc.)\n\nOwn rapid, iterative feedback on data quality- first pass gets us information, not perfection\n\nSpot artifacts and anomalies, and reason about what caused them\n\nWork with Bedrock leadership and customers to hold the highest data quality standard in the industry\n\nClients & Education\nCreate data products and write-ups for commercial clients\n\nServe as a primary point of contact for data quality issues, interpretations, and deliverables\n\nTeach clients about the unique value of AUV data, and what they can do with it- bring them on the journey rather than handing over a file\n\nExplain trade-offs, limitations, and uncertainty clearly, directly, and without defensiveness\n\nThe Leading Edge\nContribute to how uncertainty and accuracy get defined in ocean data-work that feeds into government standards, policy, and guidelines\n\nCollaborate with product and engineering on iterative improvements to the vehicle and to survey planning\n\nHelp build the processing workflows that let all of this scale\n\nWho You Are\nYou're a curious, fast-learning data person who wants to be on the vanguard of ocean data, and who would rather be in the conversation with the customer than behind it.\nExperience\nExperience processing and reporting on at least two of: MBES, SSS, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler, using commercial software\n\nComfort with ArcGIS, QGIS, and/or AutoCAD\n\nExperience writing data reports for commercial clients\n\nAttention to detail- you find the artifact nobody else saw\n\nNice to Have\nExperience across all four relevant sensor types (MBES, SSS, magnetometer, sub-bottom profiler)\n\nLight coding (Python/SQL)\n\nOffshore experience (ship or AUV ops)\n\nCertified Hydrographer, Cat A or Cat B; Licensed Surveyor\n\nExperience across defense (mine countermeasures, unexploded ordnance), energy (oil & gas, offshore wind), and/or environmental survey\n\nHow You Operate\nYou learn fast, and you ask good questions when you are uncertain\n\nYou treat processing as a problem-solving activity, not a checkbox exercise\n\nIterative by instinct, you improve the data and the workflow with every pass\n\nComfortable in a fast-paced environment where priorities change\n\nYou use tools and AI to increase speed, accuracy, and leverage\n\nYou are comfortable, clear, and collaborative in front of a customer\n\nWhat You Care About\nThe idea of seeing the seafloor in a way no one has seen it before excites you\n\nYou take pride in craft, clarity, and accuracy\n\nYou have some connection to the ocean, professional, academic, or personal and you are excited to be around people who dive, sail, build, and explore offshore\n\nNot a Fit If...\nYou want the data perfect on the first pass-iterative improvement is our way\n\nYou are uncomfortable with uncertainty or with rapid changes in priorities\n\nYou are not interested in learning new tools and approaches\n\nYou do not want to interface directly with clients, or you see customer education as a distraction from the real work\n\nYou are looking for predictable hours and firm boundaries around when the work happens. This job will require some nights and weekends around survey campaigns.\n\nEstimated compensation for this position is $95,000- $130,000 annually plus equity. Actual salary offered will be based on qualifications, experience, and location (SF and NY being at the high end of the band).\nIf you want to work on the highest-resolution seafloor data on the planet and help decide what comes next in this field, we should talk.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5113,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Geological Survey","Underwater & Marine Robotics"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-13T20:29:58Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":28,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.512,"p_room":0.55,"age_days":47,"expected_fill_days":35,"reasons":["conf:2","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-31T05:58:55Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":130000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/bedrock-ocean-hydrographergeophysicist","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/bedrock-ocean-hydrographergeophysicist.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-01T02:54:56Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4455,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-02T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":176571},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=176571"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fbedrock-ocean-hydrographergeophysicist"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fbedrock-ocean-hydrographergeophysicist"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fbedrock-ocean-hydrographergeophysicist"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/bedrock-ocean-hydrographergeophysicist\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fbedrock-ocean-hydrographergeophysicist"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":875742}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"bedrockocean.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":875742},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
